Removing Lower Plenum

on removing the lower plenum, is it just the 3 bolts and the hexxed heads that you see or is there more hidden ? on the hexxed, i tried with an allen set and theyre quite hard to get off, an easier way to get em off ?

Yes, there's much more.

It's actually 6 hex head and 2 nuts. The nuts are at the back in front of the EGR. There are two bolts that affix the EGR valve to the back of the lower plenum. Also, the stud for the upper idler pulley of the timing belt is threaded into the front of the lower plenum. You have to remove the timing belt and everything around it to get the lower plenum out. It's a major b*tch.

You want to replace the two lower intake manifold - to - head gaskets. They're quite pricey.

man... sounds like a bigger job than i expected. much unlike the upper plenum. is there no work around to getting to the det senor ?

my ecu is reading off the code for the det. so im guessing it'd retard the timing

EDIT: also another thing 91zxtt, the only reason why im replacing the det sensor is because im considering the fact that it retards the timing and also the ecu is reading it. should this be a major concern mentioning my symptons of my z - hesitation under normal conditions and rough idle. but im hoping that when my injectors come in, that should be the cure. but im also looking into buying the det sensor to see if thats another cause of my symptoms.

There's no round about to get to the det sensor.

You're right about it retarding the timing. Did you check your timing before you tore it apart? If you're above 15, then that could be causing it. Also, if you have a faulty injector, or two that are not injecting enough fuel into the combustion chamber, then it could ping; which could throw the code through the eco.

Notice how I said could. No guarantees.

If I were you and I didn't posess the know-how to get this job done, then I would put it all back together with the new injectors, check the timing and run it. If it still doesn't run right, then take it to a shop. The lower plenum removal sucks. It's by far the most difficult part I've replaced. I have a Craftsman 3/8" drive ratchet shaped hole in the wall in my garage to proove it. I haven't thrown anything that hard since Senior year high school baseball.

NO. It'll be much easier. The hardest part was the EGR valve. With the engine out of the car then the EGR should be a snap. I assume you're planning on doing the 60k service, so you'll already have the front of the engine apart.

yeah the 60K service, 02 sensors, Engine rebuild gasket kit. spark plugs, R34 turbos, DP, , ceramic coat the upper plenum black, polish the valve covers, hoen the upper and lower plenums, new EGR, replace all fuel lines, vacum lines, and waterbypass hoses. heater hoses. Flywheel and clutch. polish the throttle bodies. clean out the IACV, paint soem parts. and that should allow me to pass emisiions right?

If that doesn't bring out NISMO, then I don't know what will. He was always talking about the NUR.

If I remeber correctly, the NUR turbos are no different than the other Skyline turbos. The NUR was significantly lighter and had gold plated something or another in the engine. I can't remember what though.
