View Full Version : best wheels for a Z
Z_WRECKER 01-16-2004, 06:29 PM ok fellas....my girlfriend wants to buy me some rims, so i need a suggestion on the best rims for a Z. i checked ebay and i really like those ADR ones with a fat lip....but they are like chrome or something. i want gunmetal with lots and lots of lip....you gotta have the lip. she is getting them for our 1 year anniversary...now thats what i call an awesome girlfriend. :) so help out and hit me with some suggestions. she offered to pay for the tires, but i can't let her spend so much money. now i gotta spit out some serios dugh and get her something nice too....i know tires hahaha...
emo236 01-16-2004, 07:30 PM Look into Seneka Sports. The ADR's are sweet and you can get them in gunmetal too. Just not on Ebay (I don't think so anyway). Another thing that I kinda like is 350z rims. They look pretty good on a clean Z. Look around. I posted a post with TONS of links to sights to look for Wheels a little while ago. Check this out.

Thats a good place to look.
IZwutumean 01-16-2004, 08:25 PM what type of Z are we talkin about, chief?
Z_WRECKER 01-16-2004, 08:47 PM thanx emo.... i figured my Z needs some new shoes with fat lip..and this is a z32 forum si i have a z32
91zxtt 01-16-2004, 08:51 PM I went with the BBS RC's. 17's up front with Michelin Pilot Sport 255/40's. 18's in the rear with 275/35's. That'sprobaly more than you need on your NA though.
Z_WRECKER 01-16-2004, 08:52 PM they are nice, but i want more lip... i am not looking for the wheels that are too fancy i wanna keep the clean look, i like these i just want the lip
Z_WRECKER 01-16-2004, 08:55 PM you are right 91zxtt, but i am prolly gonna do the tt swap when i get some of my tax money back. and emo this is a great site wheel specs (http://www.wheelspecs.com) thanx a lot
emo236 01-16-2004, 09:37 PM Glad I could help. The ADRs do have a lot of lip I believe. Volks do too, but you might be making your girl spend a lot of money if you do that. And now you're gonna hafta get her some diamond earings!
emo236 01-16-2004, 09:50 PM Just found this. you might be interested.

Z_WRECKER 01-16-2004, 10:01 PM thanx emo but those are not what i am looking for... i like a tad more lip
emo236 01-17-2004, 01:31 PM How much are you willing to let her spend?
Riz Z Speed 01-17-2004, 03:02 PM http://300zxclub.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24137&highlight=rims
the exact rims that I want.
Extremely light weight even for 17 and 18 inch sizes. Expensive though. Unless you got the hook-up of course.:D
*just to clarify, the SSR Cometitions on the black TT is what I want. Not the chrome disasters posing as rims on the other cars.
Z_WRECKER 01-17-2004, 03:08 PM rizz those are nice, i like those... and as far as the money goes i'd say close to 2g...she's a rich bitch :)
emo236 01-17-2004, 03:14 PM I guess, then in that case, I'd have to say look at Volk's selection, they make some nice nice rims. Hey and could you get your gf to buy me some nismo 555s please. Thanks and tell her thanks for me too.
Riz Z Speed 01-17-2004, 03:16 PM Tire Rack sells them. They range in price from $359 to $449 per rim depending on size. So you'll be looking at $1436 to $1796 for a set without tires.
The 17" weigh as little as 15LBS per rim. The 18" weigh as little as 16LBS. The wider rims weigh about a pound more. Considering some 17 and 18 inch rims weigh anywhere up to about 25-40LBS per rim. I think that they're phenomenal rims!!
But at that price, there's no way I would buy them! Good thing that I have an account with them! All I need now is some money!! :p
Z_WRECKER 01-17-2004, 03:19 PM i'll aske her emo.....she said no way :) well she's been good to me, got me some nismo seats and 4 pt harnesses for xmas. so i will keep her for a while. she's a great girl too.
emo236 01-17-2004, 03:24 PM Are you gonna get those zwrecker? or is your gf rather? Those are pretty sweet, I like your taste Rizz. And those are light. My 18's in the back are 22 lbs each, a little hefty but not too bad considering.
Riz Z Speed 01-17-2004, 03:27 PM Can't go wrong with Syle and Performance, right? :)
emo236 01-17-2004, 03:39 PM No you can't. That's why I'm a big fan of Volk, they're in that lightness range. Zwrecker, look at those that Rizz showed you and look at Volk, a lot of their wheels are about that style. How big do you think you want to go?
Z_WRECKER 01-17-2004, 05:18 PM i want 18x9.5 in the rear with big lip, and 18x8.5 in the front. my z is gonna be a high flying into the curves machine
emo236 01-17-2004, 05:20 PM I hope you're doing suspension too. That's gonna look kinda funny if you don't drop the car a little.
Z_WRECKER 01-17-2004, 05:30 PM kyb agx 4 way front 8 waay rear adj damper. eibach pro kit , polyurethane bushings, sway bars, adj upper arm and rods...i am gonna try filling my chasis so it gets super tight+front and rear struts.
emo236 01-17-2004, 05:32 PM Good setup. You'll be amazed at how your car handles when you do all that suspension work. I have all that, but intrax springs and tokiko illuminas. It's AMAZING! Puts a whole new meaning to handling on rails.
Z_WRECKER 01-17-2004, 05:37 PM i know i drove it around the neighborhood since i don't have my lisence and i love it... i just can't wait for those wide rims
emo236 01-18-2004, 06:46 PM Have you decided on a set of wheels yet? And why don't you have your liscense?
Z_WRECKER 01-18-2004, 07:00 PM i dunno just yet i wanna shop around, bc i am pretty picky what goes on my z...everything i have ever gotten for it was done with some research. i want my baby just right....i lost it for street racing due to a bastard cop who i know drives a modded civic....that bastard. i saw him last night when i was out.... he was in his squad car looking at me and smiling i was gonna flick him off but i am 3 weeks away from getting back on the road....i'll get that f$#@ker, i know where he hangs out.
emo236 01-18-2004, 07:08 PM Don't know if it's the best idea to beat the crap out of a cop. Maybe you could get an inside scoop on when he's next racing and inform the police department that their is a civic racing here...feel me? That wouldn't be too good for his law enforcment career.
Z_WRECKER 01-18-2004, 07:28 PM i was gonna catch him driving drunk bc i've seen him leave a bar pretty wasted. thats a good idea too. he's a prick. he would pull me over all the time just bc one time we raced, i beat him, and that was when i didn't know he was a cop. my lawyer said if he pulls me over one more time without a reason that he's off the force. he's such a prick
emo236 01-18-2004, 07:33 PM Hey I was looking around, and I found these wheels. TONS of lip. check it out.

emo236 01-18-2004, 11:02 PM These are probably the ADRs that you were talking about, but just incase you didn't see these.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2454005082&category=43959
Z_WRECKER 01-19-2004, 04:39 PM yes emo those are the ones...the ADR ones that i want. the firs set is kind of too i dunno ...not my style... i want them to be pretty but not too pretty, + my g/f really likes those adr ones. i appreciate the links emo, i will search a little bit more, and i'll post some pics too
emo236 01-19-2004, 04:45 PM I feel ya, theyre not neccesarily my style either..IMO, you can't go wrong with a nice 5 star wheel with some lip to em.
Z_WRECKER 01-19-2004, 04:52 PM yup. you got it... you want something nice, little flashy but not too much, just enough to say damn those look nice, and check out that lip, :)
Z_WRECKER 01-19-2004, 09:51 PM hey guys check out this site...it's pretty sweet....all kinds of rims, and you can kinda see how they will look on a z...rimstop (http://www.rimstop.com)
Copper727 01-20-2004, 01:55 PM Hey, that's a pretty cool site! Javascript and everything too, huh?
And if I hear the word "lip" one more time in this thread, I swear to GOD that I'm gonna gouge out my eyes and serve it to my dog for dinner tonight!! Man, that's gotta be the most I have ever seen that word in a single hour! What's the deal with you and wanting "more lip", Zwrecker?? Here you've been, telling us throughout this thread about your rich and wonderful girlfriend that's going to buy you these awesome rims, but you keep asking for more lip...hmmm...me thinks maybe she's not as great a girlfriend...in certain areas...as you've led us to believe...:p
Z_WRECKER 01-20-2004, 01:59 PM come one Copper, this is a z forum, it's a place online where families can sign in together and share information that is not corrupted, or profound.....oh wait thats not you is it hehehe jk. i get all the lip i want, but the lip i was talking about are the RIMS i want the deep dish, but not too crazy deep....just deep enough
emo236 01-20-2004, 02:07 PM lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip lip .....there you go, Copper, you're dog's hungry.
Z_WRECKER 01-21-2004, 02:54 PM thanx for covering my back emo :D
emo236 01-21-2004, 03:43 PM No problem...it was fun.:D
Z_WRECKER 01-21-2004, 05:51 PM Copper are you not getting any lip yourself so you are little pissed off??? it's ok it will happen if you wait....good things happen to ppl who wait :D
emo236 01-21-2004, 10:10 PM Aww...cmon zwrecker....low blow. I know we're a z family, but we don't hafta fight like siblings.
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 06:48 AM my bad.... i had a bad day :(
Riz Z Speed 01-22-2004, 02:06 PM So, have you narrowed down your search?
If so, let us know which ones.
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 02:27 PM i am still leaning towards those adr ones...they just look really sweet...they are pretty subtle, perfect lip, i just dunno about weight. i dunno how much they weight
emo236 01-22-2004, 02:31 PM THose are nice wheels. And in all honesty...light wheels are nice to have, but I dont think wheels that aren't super light are gonna kill you. If they're heavy then maybe, but I couldn't imagine the ADRs are any heavier than average.
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 06:18 PM i agree, and emo your z is sweet... i like it very much, very clean, thats my style too
emo236 01-22-2004, 06:34 PM Thanks man...photoshop got rid of the cipped up paint...I should have some more pics coming so I'll hafta try to use on of those as my avatar or I'll just post em. I wanna get some pics of my wheels...I love em!
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 06:37 PM i just can't wait until i get my z the way i want her...the interior is coming along great guys. i've been really patient and it's gonna look really good, but knowing me i know i will redo it like 5 times in the next year or so, bc my z will never be finished....oh yeah i went to my insurance today to get a quota on a new evo ( just to see how much it would run me ) and they said $6,000 a year!!!!!!!! hahaha thats what my answer was :)
emo236 01-22-2004, 06:41 PM Stick with the Z.
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 07:08 PM i will never sell my Z. she is getting a tt heart transplant as soon as i get some cash....and i can count on you guys for the help with this right? Emo i know you know a lot , as well as 91zxtt, and ofcourse Rizz, so i am in good hands
emo236 01-22-2004, 08:48 PM Yea, I'll try my best to help. Here's something to look at:
http://www.z1motorsports.com/forum/Z1%20written/NATTconversion.doc
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 09:43 PM thanx emo i downloaded it... i am thinking about getting one of those jspec front clips and upgrading the hell out of it while it's out
Z_WRECKER 01-22-2004, 09:48 PM emo this is great stuff man....,i feel like i kid in a candy store, my eyes are so big, and i just can't seem to get enough info on these engines
Riz Z Speed 01-22-2004, 10:59 PM This candy be expensive though!! :)
emo236 01-22-2004, 11:02 PM Yea it is! Make sure you do some homework before you get a clip though. Don't just buy the cheapest one....No matter how much you rebuild a motor...it's gonna be crap if the block is crap. Try to buy from someone that you've seen some good things about before. It's better to spend the money now than to spend more money later.
Riz Z Speed 01-22-2004, 11:46 PM Moved to wheels&tires.
Sorry just realized that it should've been moved here a while ago.;)
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0205scc_wheelguide/index.html
A link to help in wheel selection.
emo236 01-22-2004, 11:49 PM Yea..I was thinking that it should be here too.
Z_WRECKER 01-23-2004, 07:55 PM sorry for posting it under a different thread.... this place that i am getting my front clip from gives you 6 months unlimited mile warranty on their engines, and their engines already come with forged pistons. their clips are around 2,700 +s&h and engines are between 40-50k... a friend of mine got his this past summer and it runs strong, so they might gimme a little break on the price, i think i'll go with them since his engine works great, and it sounds great, but when it's time for that you guys know i'll keep you updated and ask for advice, because i am just a simple n/a driver trying to make a switch to more power
Z_WRECKER 01-23-2004, 08:03 PM ok fellas thanx for your help, but i am getting those adr rims in that opal finish 18x8.5 front 18x9.5 back...thats gonna be my vday present, but i will not put them on until i repaint my baby. and then we shoot some calendar pictures :D
emo236 01-23-2004, 11:50 PM Sounds awfully sweet! Which place are you getting your clip from exactly. Sounds like a promising place. Especially since they warranty it. Good price too. Definitely ask questions and keep us updated. Here's something else for you to munch on:
http://ashleypowers.com/Na-TTConversion/natoturbo.htm
Z_WRECKER 01-24-2004, 01:03 AM it's this place in Baltimore, MD. it's this shop that was only doing domestic engines, and since there is so much money in imports they do both now, i have a phone number somewhere, but i don't think they have a website up yet. it's a familly shop i think father and 3 sons run it. they have about 30 employees, i cannot remember the name, i'll look it up guys and post it for sure
Z_WRECKER 01-24-2004, 01:05 AM and Emo i really appreciate your help with this i've been reading up on this like crazy. it's gonna be a hell of a job, but it's gonna be worth it. i just wanna do everything i wanna do to the car before the swap ( body, wheels, few more things on my suspension, and interior) before i take this up
