engine ideas
ok so im thinking of some ideas on what to do to get my engine to around 200hp. im staying n/a and i want to keep it a daily driver.
now i want to raise the compression to about 9.5/1. i was wondering witch would be a better way to do it, oversize the pistons or to deck the head.
my other question is on my head can you clean out the exhaust ports to get rid of the round tube thats in there.
thanks

Shady is runnin ~200hp on his L28 n/a... he built that thing like a rock.
< gets out intraweb p.a. > SHADY!!! Tune in to this thread....
Basics:
Lots of head work (decking, valves, porting)
Mild cam
Header w/ 2.5" exhaust
60mm throttle body & turbo with n/a guts AFM
Upgraded ignition

wouldnt he need to port/polish the intake manny and bigger injectors? (unless those were a given)
EDIT: nm he's only going for 200 and the comp increase should about cover that... (up your goals )

polishing an intake is overkill. You want the air to flow unrestricted, but a slight agitation of incoming air actually helps the air / fuel mix.

The flapper AFM will change to a MAS. The fuel metering system is much better and the ECU then controls ignition timing by using a distributor from a 280ZX turbo and the crank angle sensor from a Z31 is placed into that 280ZXT distributor.
Plus once that is in place you get basic "codes" from the ECU if there are issues. Its not an amazing fuel management system but much better than the ECU used from 1975-83. (plus its cheap to buy the parts)
1988-89 Z31 even has 2-bank injector firing! High tech! 1984-87 are super common in the wrecking yards too.
This Just in!
I just got a tip from NismoPick that a 240Z ECU also adds 12hp. I'm still trying to find one though. I guess they are super rare...

i will definetly look into doin that.
so here is what i am planing to do
mild cam swap,
port polish head,
raise compression,
z31 ecu swap,(and everything else that goes with it)
60 mm tb,
5 speed tranny swap,
upgraded fuel rail,
headers, 2.25 exhaust,
remove a/c system
then back to what i asked first to raise the compression is it better to just deck the head or oversized pistons

i guess better as in a more reliable setup,
now after loking at those links im thinking more into an oversized piston, i looked at the msa pistons, but they showed they dont show any in stock. where else would i get them?
