New 280Z
Hi Im new to this forum and new to owning a z or anycar for that matter. Well I guess I really shouldnt call it new. But its new to me. This is my first car , I love z's and my dads friend wanted to get rid of it to a good home.but the problem is he left it sitting from 1992 til now before he did so.
As you can see its very old and hasnt been tuned or even touched in the last decade. So what do you think i should do. Do you think this car is even fixable ?

totally fixable. they sell new floor pans you can get installed by a good welder. i cant see the pics cause they wont load on a seperat screen but looking at the thumbnails id say go for it. but take some precautions. im guessing it has been ran in a while? drain the fuel tank and put new gas in it, change the oil and tranny and diff fluid. do a full tune up cap rotor plugs and wires. also before attempting to crank the engine squirt a little oil in each cylinder since im sure the walls are dry by now. after you get her running good you can go to town on restoring her.

Yeah, welcome. Don't forget to purge the gas line. With the hose to the fuel rail disconnected. After sitting that long the hoses to the rail and injectors might need to be replaced. Take your time and do it right.

Thank you guys. I appreciate the help. we actualy just put in some Marvel Mystery oil in the engine . and were gonna let it sit for about a week and see what happens. And sooner or later im gonna overhaul the transmission , then send the fuel rails out to get cleaned. Then Ill just see what happens.
EDIT : also i googled 280z floorboard does anyone know where i could get one?

2nd (or 3rd) the others' comments on thoroughly draining the fuel system, cleaning out the old gas, and replacing the fuel filter and soft lines.
For floor pans, check out Zedd Findings, Bad Dog Parts, Motorsport Auto (aka MSA), and Z Specialties. There are others, too. Those are just the ones I remember at the moment. While you're at it, check out the Vendor/Where To Buy Parts sticky in the 240/260/280Z main forum.
And congrats on your new-to-you Z! With a little time and patience you'll have a drop dead gorgeous classic sports car!
happy wrenching,
Dave

why are you going to overhaul the tranny? some sort of known problem? cause honestly these cars trans's dont have problems unless exposed to high power applications and even then they usually only fail under hard shifting. i just recently learned big phil is using an NA 5spd on his i believe it was 450whp 280Z. i was impressed.

hmmm.... i think i have floor pans for some reason. idk WHY i think i do but i swear i do. lol. i have to check my current floor pans but im pretty sure they are fine so i might be able to part with them. if they really do exist and im not freaking loopy and making something up in my mind.

you think thats bad you should see mine, but im welding in 18 guage sheet metal inplace of it this weekend, but hey you either pay $50 for sheet metal instead of 500 + for floor pans and then all u need is someone with time and experiance to weld them in, wait just took a second look, okay it's just as bad as my car lol, same color and everything, if you have the time, money and the tools then def keep t and fix it. if you have neither of the above, don't even have second thoughts about it, i maybe new at the 280 but you'll get the picture very soon, and just remeber everyone on these forums are here to help so ask as many questions as u feel neccesary.

well time isnt a problem here. im 16 still in school half homeschool half regular school so basicaly i go to school 6 hours a week the rest im at home. So this would give me something to do. money I dont have but will shortly as long as i have a plan on what to do I can save up for parts. and do you guys think it would be safe to see if the engine would turnover if i put in some oil in the cylindersand changed the gas. not to run just to see if itll turnover my dad thought it would be a good idea but i dont want to damage anything.
