Windshield Concern

I've got a 280z and the front windshield was put in with caulk. There is no weatherstripping or chrome pieces. Anyone come up with this. Who would be best to fix this properly. Is this a potential nightmare?

Welcome to ZDriver!

Call your local auto glass shops and ask them. They should be able to source a windshield gasket for ya at their cost. R&R'ing the windshield will be probably $100-$200 since they will have to completely clean the edge of all the silicone. Or you could do it yourself, then just have them install it.

Yes, it is a potential nightmare. The old Z's aren't like newer cars, body flex will cause the glass to crack or come loose if it isn't installed properly. Looks like some junkyard trips are in your future...glass places will not be able to supply the trim pieces.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like Black Dragon has the weatherstripping and Courtesy Nissan has trim pieces. The trims a bit pricey. I'll try a couple glass installers to see if they have any thoughts. I just hope the window frames in good shape after all the caulk is removed. I don't know why someone would caulk in a windshield - isn't even sealed good, it leaks.

They must have cut the moldings outside off and set the glass on what was left because the glass is smaller than the opening. You can buy the tools to install the glass and the molding to do it yourself with the help of a friend. I did one by myself. First put the molding in dry. Then wet it with Armorall and start the bottom edge. Use the tools to pull the molding up over the edge of the glass. Using the wrong tools will crack the glass.
