switching radio

i recently purchased a 71 240z and want to change out the radio. i'll be keeping the orginal parts and fabing a new face plate. is there some trick to removing the fan speed control ****? i thought it would just pull off but it won't budge. anyone have any insight?

there is a screw right under the fan control ****. Why do you want to take out the climate controls? if you just want to change the deck out, then the stock deck should slide right out, provided you have the right "keys" for it. If you look on each side of the deck, it is going to have a slot on both sides, for a flat piece of metal to slide into, which will release the deck from it's brackets, and it'll slide right out.

the whole console face plate needs to come off in order to take out the radio. the radio face plate comes off with the two screws at the bottom. the radio itself sits behind the main console face plate which is held on by two additional screws at the top (either side of the light). when all four screws are removed the console face plate is still held on by the fan speed control ****.
