only n00bs need their hand held for this swap. the hardest part is pin-pointing FOR SURE the exact wires on the harness you need and then labeling them what to attach them to. easy as pie

Last Saturday I got the turbo motor pulled from the donor & now I gotta get to work refreshing it. Come spring I will freshen up the S30 engine bay & do the wiring harness.

So for now I'm going to de-web the turbo intake manifold, tear down the motor, get the head machined, and make it all look pretty!

Haha. This has been a fun thread.

I created the wiring harness that is in my 260Z. Been removing the harness from under the dash of the '81 ZXT today, and I pretty much figured it was going to be easy. Still not worried. I am doing mine a little more custom than most though when it comes to the wiring.

okay this thread isn't officially dead... i'm back in school and i'm just shopping for parts so i can throw it all back together when i get back. Here's my question though...

Now that i've wired pretty much everything except the injectors, i have the fuel pump relay but i dont have any ignition relay male part.

should i buy an extra one of these?
I only have one of these male plugs already (on the fuel relay portion) but i have 2 seperate female plugs (fuel relay and ignition relay as seen previously in post).

I'm 99% ready to temp install the turbo efi harness, but I have some wiring questions for those who have done this swap:

#1: Where under the 280z dash is the wire to the stock tach? Color?

#2: Did anyone use the stock 280z 4 pin plug (next to the fuel pump relay plugs) to tap into the ignition wires and +12v wire for the fuel pump? This seems a lot easier than running new lines, since it's all right there.

And that is it! I will be creating a how-to thread for this, with CLEAR and EXACT pictures with NO confusion. I will also be upgrading the harness to a Z31T ecu & will later include those pics as well.

At the coil its a blue wire I believe idk if its the same all the way to the tach but it wouldn't be shocking

and also if you use the wire from the coil it will keep inline the resistor they have under the dash somewhere for the tach.

I may do that. From the wiring schematics, it looks like the tach wire is the blue one (single connector about a foot from the 280z ecu plug). I just wasn't sure if it ran to the tach because the schematics just show it going straight to the neg coil terminal.

Apparently you haven't hooked it up right then. There shouldn't be anything on the passenger side for the tach.

I was referring to your comment, I just didn't emphasize it.

yes its the blue wire, and yes I ran my fuel pump and ignition to that 4 plug under the drivers side dash. It also powers my radio and boost gauge light. Nismo you should have gone with Megasquirt... So much easier to install than the stock wiring or the Z31 setup. I have mine tuned pretty well and have set the boost to 10psi. I have an intercooler that will go on soon but that will be after I dyno it this weekend.

^^^ Right on! That's good info!

The reason I'm going w/ a Z31T ecu setup is because I already had all the parts and know how for this budget build (vs $300-$600 and tons of time to tune).

I may one day do a MSnS setup...
