1977 280z, crank but will not start
I have a 1977 280Z with 77,000 miles; has not been started for several years. We drained the gas tank, replaced leaking gas lines near fuel pump and fuel damper, and cleaned/replaced some fuel injection lines on Guel pressure regulator;
Fuel pressure tested at 40 Psi coming out of fuel filter; the test was conducted via a device checked from autozone, appeared to be accurate; the car will crank but willl not start. it will start for a couple of seconds when starter fluid is put into air filter inflow.
What would suggest we look at next?? Carmen Gonzales, Scottsdale AZ

if the car starts when spraying something in the intake it is only a fuel problem. if you suspect that the fuel pressure is not high enough then take a pair of plires and gently pinch off the return line under the feed line next to fuel filter. that will increase the pressure for testing and you can do that simple test.
the other thing you can do is check if the injectors are working. Can you get a "noid" light, the fsm calles it a minature light. it connects onto the fuel injector harness connector and it will flash when the ecm commands the injector to open and close. but a faster thing to do is to simply take a mechanics sthescope and place the tip on the top of the injector and have some one crank the motor, if you can hear the injector clicking (it will be very sharp and strong in the sthescope) the injector is working if not then yhou found your problem.

My pressure was very low around 18psi before the new pump. The fsm calls for 36.9psi. And 90turbo1 is correct you should def check if your injectors are good. Then proceed to the cold start valve and the thermo-time switch.
