21.9 Miles per gallon

Just took a road trip in a stock '72. After chasing down electrical problems, lining the fuel tank w/ por -15 and getting the carbs rebuilt i got 21.9 mpg on the road averaging 60 - 65 with slowing down in little towns.

I guess I should thank my lucky stars. I have a 280zx distro to go in it. THe vacuum advance is toast, but other than that it looks great. Any experience on how this will help performance and efficiency?? Where can I get an Advance.

Thanks,

Brian

The best milage I have evr gotten in my 78 280Z is 35. I was driving from Glasgow MT to Great Falls MT. I was doing 85 for all but the last 50 miles. When my fuel light came on I slowed to 50 hoping I could make it in to town.( I was glad to know my Fuel light qorked). When I fueled up I put in 17.2 gallons. I think that ia about as far as I have ever drining on a yank of gas. It was scary as hell. I usually average about 22-25MPG driving the Interstate at 80MPH.

Do you have a 5 speed? I have a stock 4 sp, so I figure that's that.

I put the 280zx distro in and it REALLY smoothed out the idle, starting etc. The sheriff's deputy that wanted to get a closer look was impressed with it's new performance. What a way to break in a new car part!!

Yea it is a 5 speed. It does make a huge difference in gas mileage.

I average 28mpg on the highway (80mph) and 22mpg in town. I have a 280 turbo motor in a 73 running 12psi.

If i am cruising to Vegas from Pocatello I avaerage 25mpg at 85+ and a few races in traffic. I really enjoy playinf Pole Position on Salt Lake city traffic. I have never lost to any car driving thru traffic.
