240z vs 280z
So i have been looking for an original 240z but havent come across one. I have however come across a '77 280z. From reading about them they seem to be basically the same besides the engines. the 240z has 150HP and a carb where as the '77 280z has 170hp and FI.
From reading about the history of Zs they all claim that after the federal emissions regulations no Z matched the original. Well it seems the '77 with 20 more HP should be around the same performance of the original, i would think? or is the '77 that much heavier?
how do these two vehicles compare? should i hold out for a 240z?

The 240Z doesn't really perform better. With the stock carbs it actually performs worse. If you put aftermarket carbs on it that can help a lot. The main reason the 240Z is so much more popular is because it has more "prestige". I actually think that 280Z is just as good if not better. I guess I am a little bias though haha.

I also agree the 280Z is better. The fuel injection requires less maintance. I have owned both and do feel the 280Z performs better for a daily driver. The 240Z is better for a modifaction classy cruiser. I own a 280Z cause I use to do a lot of driving. I am now thinking about selling her cause my injuries are preventing me from driving her properly.

One quick note that 170 is a gross hp. if in a good condition and stock the hp will put 145ish if im right. The 240 will out do that 280 A)its light b) the L24 is a good engine for that light of a car. it depends what u want yes the 240 is light and with minor hp u can get fast times bc of teh hp and weight ratio. But the 280 has a stiff chaise so it can hold a some hp itself. IT comes down to what can u do. if they both are in good condition i would go for the 240 but if the 280 is in awesome condition shoot for that. so basically find one with the least ammount of problems or if u are a good car working person the the cheaper would be better
