260z problems

I have an early 74 260z. I just replaced the starter and now none of the electrical equipment will work. The car will not turn over. I hooked all of the cables back up correctly and checked the battery. I can stick a screwdriver in between the 2 post of the starter and the car can crank up and the electrical equipment will work. Does anybody have any clue of whats wrong?

Thanks

Sounds like the fuseable link is bad. This will cause the vary thing you are finding. Do not replace it with a heavy gage wire as this is the defence for your whole cars wiring , in case of a short. You can do a continuinty check and see most of the time . However if it is not completely severed it may still give a reading on the multimeter. A fuseable link should still be available at Nissan Dealer. My 2¢ Gary

It could be a defective (new) solinoid. Could be the terminal ends a broken off but the covers are still in tact. What you are doing with the screw driver is bypassing the ignition switch.
