75 distributor in a 73

I am replacing my old worn out 73 240 engine with a fresh 75 280. My engine has 193,000 miles on it and I found a 75 that was rebuilt by a sprint car racer and only has 10,000 since the rebuild. It has n42 head and flat tops and runs great.
My question is can I use the 75 Electronic Ignition distributor in my car without the ECU, and if I can't how should I wire the ECU properly?
HELP!!!!!!!

Thank you so very much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the info. I guess all you have to do is ask and there is someone out there that has either done it or knows someone that has. This is a great site and I am sure I will be back with more questions. If you ever need to know anything about paint, feel free to ask. I am an expert when it comes to that end of it.
