76 280z FI'ed major probs need help desparately
My prob is that 5 & 6 cyli. are fouling plugs completely black sooty like within 10 sec of idling. Does anyone or has anyone had this prob? Any suggestions?
I also have a 79 zx, are the injectors the same, and can a drizzling injector cause this prob.? I'm really stumped as to this how to fix this prob. and I'm really sad that I have to drive the Chevy. Please all suggestions are welcome.....

There are a few things that I can think of. Check to see if your exhaust is clogged, check the cat and the muffler. Also check your timing, my 81ZX wont run right now because the distributor wont stay timed and I get the same problem fouled plugs in about 3 seconds.
Those are idea i have one more thing check you AFM and air fuel mixture

Not meaning to be stupid, but how do I check injectors? I have 5 & 6 out of intake but still connected to fuel rail. Valve cover off, it is able to turn over though. By the way it was running prior to not. I turned left @ a stop and as I let off of clutch it dropped to a 4 cyl. I don't think the turn did it but it's tempermental, so who knows. I REALLY Appreciate some z knowledge from another z owner. Everyone I run around with has muscle cars. By the way minus rims and bumpers I thought your pic was my z. Right now I kinda wish it was.

Put the ingnition in the on position dont start the car. Just put it in the on position. If your Z is like mine you will here the fuel pump run for about 3 seconds. Check the injectors to see if any fuel is coming out. If they are not leaking then they should be OK. So that only leaves the distibutor. or wires. This test really sucks so be prepared. Strat the car with all the injectors in and plugs in. Run your hand down each spark plug wire. if you get a shock, which by the way will hurt, Then your insulation is bad and your spark is going to ground.

Thanx I really appreciate it. If I gotta gut this thing what will transfer from my 79 280zx(Ltd. on title) to my 76? Are the heads the same, they are both 2.8's. Visually it's the fuel rail and other emissions crap. And ca I strip all emissions crap off of 76 and it still run good with fuel inj. or would I need to goto weber carbs? Sorry I just have too many questions

Well as for the smog I pulled all that crap off my 78 with out any problems. You can use most of the parts of the 79 but if I remember the tranny is a little bigger and the head is different but will work.

Supposedly the 79 was just rebuilt, 1200 miles ago. But who really knows how many years ago that was. I pulled the inject. from it and the cap on the spray end of the injector cracked and fell right off. If the whole block and tranny will fit I would do it keeping the 76 intake intact. But I can't even be sure that the 79 engine is any good. visually it looks good but the wiring is the biggest prob. Previous owner blew fuse then used a phillips drill bit for the fuse. The engine turns over but no fire was th problem. Any Tucson Z owners bored and want to share some knowledge, we'll have a beer or ten

.After almost changing heads, but pulling one and saying $#$@ that... Kept fiddlin' asking many ?s'.(thanks to all for your patience) Then as luck would have it 5 & 6 started firing again.? But then 1-thru 4 weren't.? So by pulling the harness to ECU, located drivers side kick panel, and testing injectors 1 thru 6 we discovered no power to injectors 1-2-3 and only 5v to 4 we had a prob. Continued testing ECU harness deduced it wasn't wiring harness, waste of time.. in my case. Kept testing and discovered no juice. Couldn' t find where the prob was, had to be wires somewhere. finally found that it was the drop resistor that is located behind the winshield washer res. and the clutch master cylinder. Replaced with one out of 79zx n/a and were smokin' again...

That is great something I thought of is the timing chain but if it is running than great man good job. Enjoy the hell out of it. I have 2 Z,s and love them both. I am selling my 81 cause I cant buy another car until I get rid of one. I love my 78Z way to much to get rid of so the 81ZX has to go. I hope I can find someone who loves Z,s as much as me to buy her.

Does the 81 run good?, or is a parts car? Same #ish% for me my wife won't let me have anymore. As soon as I get them I gotta find someone or somewhere I can put it. Take the caddy for instance i don't even park it @ my house..Granted I live on the outskirts of a maj crack neighborhood, so don't leave your tools out. Lost a $350 compressor 2nd week here, learned quickly.
But back to cars , in order for me to get another car I am giving her lil sister a car. " Honey I gotta fix it up for her, it's gotta be nice it's YOUR sister.!" can go along ways. By my doing that just opened the door for me to get 1 more for awhile. BUT if it's a Z- well she may wanna keep it as long as she gets to drive it. Long story + short story. HAD 74 260 w 3 webers on a Cannon intake & Headers. She drove it 1 night to deliver pizza, now i drive a 76Z. HHHMmmm she killed it, head on into a steel pole. Pulled both headlights in 4 inches. She was ok, car sitting in a pudle of it's fluid as if crying. I was so angry all I could do was laugh.
But I am a lil curious about the 81, it'll goto a good home.

I just have to change the plugs and adjust the timing but I have drove her for 2 years. I would alternate between the 78 and 81 depending on what I was going to do. The cruise, AC atereo all work great. The car is in good shape body wise. The engine and tranny are very strong. If you want pics let me know.

this is the worst time of the year for me i don't recover till march april. my b day 10/18-sons god father11/04- son 11/20- b inlaw 11/23- wife 11/25 turkey day- moms bday 12/16-xmas new years -Nov credit card bills due and so on & on.
But i am interested in one thats not needing maj repair immed.
Won't be this year for me , so if you gotta get rid of it no hurt feelings.
