Today I took off the neg battery cable then put the + probe to it and the - probe to the - battery and measured amps. it was .01 I took out fuses individually and when I took out the one of them the amps went to 0. I guess that circuit has a grounded + wire, right?

I looked at the fsm and the fuse box looks nothing like the one pictured. I looked at the wires going to it and it was a red wire with a blue stripe. It looks like that wire goes to the dash/gauges and door switch. Thanks, Jeff

.01 amps is about what the clock would use even if it doesn't move any more. The white wire with the red strip is the +. It runs from the alt to the dash harness, fuse box and amp gauge. Test this wire with your tester probe to ground (battery disconnected), shold be zero. If it beeps then you have a short. Check the back of the fusebox for melts.

It think I had the settings wrong on my multimeter. today I got from 33.6 to 46.9 amps leaking. I will find the fuse/circuit when I can get someone to watch the multimeter.

I now have the multimeter set at A 20m and it shows between 27 and 46 Amps.
I had someone watch as I pulled fuses. I dropped to zero when the 3 fuses that are connected with the white/red stripe wire were pulled.

How do I Find where exactly along the white/red stripe wire the short is?

two fuses are broken. I don't know if they broke from old age when I moved them or when the fusible link fried. I know I need to replace one 10A and one 20A, What voltage are they? 32v?

It's time to get someone to help you with that. Someone with experience. The problem with 35 year old cars is people without experiece fix them, sort of.

I can't find any 12v fuses. the lowest voltage fuses I can find are 32v. I am well aware that a car uses 12 volts.

Where are you looking? All major parts stores sell large blade, small blade, and glass tubed fuses for cars.

Are you talking about accessory fuses or fuseable links?

I got the fuses I needed. Now if I can find the short I should be good to go, I hope.
