L28 Engine size?

Iv done my searching and have come up with nothing, guessing it just doesn't come up much(or I really suck at searching)

I'm planing to do a bit of an odd engine swap, but I think it will be pretty damn awesome. I want to cram an L28 in my 93 Miata. I'm not sure how long a running block is though. Just guessing Id say if the bay was empty it would probably slide in but obviously I need the rad up front (fans can always be placed in a pushing position) and if need be, I'm willing to push back or modify the firewall to help it out.

This probably wont happen for another year or two (unless someone sponsors ) but the plan is to run an L28 3.1 stroker with triple EFI ITBs.(yes I know) that way I have plenty of power, for a miata. decently good fuel economy, and it will sound like beast.

so if any one could get me some measurements of their runner that would be great.

I'll definitely be around asking questions during the build/swap and Ill probably make a thread for it.

Thanks

24" tall, 31" long, bottom is 12" wide, intake and accessories make it 21" wide at the most. interesting swap if possible

Thanks! I took a couple quick measurements, my theory was correct, without the rad it will just scrape in length wise. the engine bay from the firewall to stock rad support is about 32" lol. I could move the rad support forward or try to remount the rad on the other side of it, but that means the added weight is all forward. If I move the fire wall back I can probably get away with leaving the section in front of the driver alone so that I don't need to move the peddles any(foot space is already limited) and I don't want to make the pedals to touchy if avoidable. On the other hand, keeping the engine forward means not needing to move the firewall or have the shifter moved back(which I'm sure can get uncomfortable) unless I make a shifter arm thats some L shape to move it forward again (think of the old firewall mounted shifters with the bend in the shaft) but mine would go up, forward, up. hmmmm, decisions...

Width is fine. As for depth, is 24" stock? Its quite tall, from the plastic shroud underneath to the hood is about 22-23" I'm guessing I could shorten the length of the oil pickup and fab my own oil pan to shave a few, but I would like to have the car low(tucking tires) but don't want to have to worry about ripping the pan off if its ends up scraping.

Over all it doesn't seem imposable. hard? Yes, but I knew that.

It's 24" to the bottom of the oil pan, there's 3-4" in the sump, and it's a rear sump.

That does sound like a interesting project/swap, I have seen a few miatas within the last year and those bays are not that big. I say more power to you if you can manage the project and complete it. I would have settled for either a V6 or a V8, maybe a SR Swap.

I always thought a turbo'd rotary would be very cool in a Miata
