Long choke cables + RHD Z's?
I bought a set of choke cables from this guy on ebay who lives in canada and bought a surplus warehouse full of Z parts. I opened the box as soon as it arrived today, and the cables are waaaaaay long. I measured them against my original choke cables, and they are about a foot and a half longer than the originals. My only thought is that these cables might be for a right hand drive Z. Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the RHD Z cars, the choke cable is on the right side of the center console, next to the driver, as it is on LHD Z's, right? Also, the engine in a RHD Z is the same as the engine in our LHD Z's, correct? I figure they are from a RHD Z because the cable would have to be longer in order to reach from the center console, through the firewall, and either over the valve cover to the carburetors, or along the firewall and to the carburetors.
Does this make any sense to anyone?
red-new choke cables, the longer ones
yellow-old choke cables, the older ones
and I know they are bent just a little bit, but even when I made them both straight, they were still way too damned long...I'll see if I can get them to fit, and if I can't, I guess it's time to go to chopping.

I don't believe that RHD or LHD has anything to do with it. The configuration of the engine is the same on both (i.e. the carbs are always on the left side). The choke level is always in the center console....which is always in the center (lol). Thus the cable length will always be the same.
Now what does come to mind is that when new they may all be this length to allow the installer to trim off the excess. You can always trim off extra cable but if it's even 1" too short you can not streach them.
