Powdercoated my L26! Photos!!!
Some of you may have seen this on HybridZ or Zcar.com or zraceforums...
The engine is a L26 which is basically a L24 block with an L28 crank and valve reliefs cut in the top deck, L24 flattops, 9.2:1 CR (will be 10.2:1 with my Maxima N47), 11lb SPEC flywheel, Stage 2+ SPEC clutch that can hold 265hp, early SUs, Header-2.5" exhaust and LOUD cheapo muffler.
stripped the block and sanded it smooth with a flap disc on a grinder.
Then powdercoated the block chrome and then prismatic black over that.
The valve cover was just coated with a thick coat of the prismatic black and then a clear powdercoat was applied to make it pop out even more.
closeup of the valve cover (I see a Z!)
If y'all ever need anything powdercoated contact Mike Golding at www.thepowdercoater.com
He does brakes, intakes, valve covers, engine blocks (mine was his first one!), cylinder heads(I would assume), sway bars, and almost any other metal part that can fit within a 40"x36"x36" box... The L6 block JUST BARELY fits in the oven!
If you get something done by him just tell him "OTM"(me) sent you!

Yeah love the idea but how will you see any leaks or what if it cracks? I my self would just paint the block with a light color and its easy to fix if it gets messed up... the valve cover on the other hand is sweet

This motor ust has to last until I do my single turbo small black ford swap...
This is basically for this summer...
I think when I do the swap in the Z I'll buy an 81-84 maxima and slap it in there.
I have a maxima N47 head which I'll slap on when I have the time to set it up. Right now I am going to paint the E88 head black so it doesn't stand out too much. There are some people that think the powdercoat on the block will crack so we'll just have to wait and see. If it does I'll just paint the block of my V8 with standard block paint.

I think it looks pretty cool...

trailer queen!?! crap...
I don't think twice about a gravel road...
Look...If it leaks oil then it will have a big section that is not shiny...not that big of a deal guys...
I don't plan on having any leaks anyways. This motor leaked out of almost every orfice before. It should be somewhat better now with a full gasket kit.
I plan on beating the crap out of this engine just to give me a better excuse to go V8...

Now, just paint the rest of the car that color, put some air bags with 16 switches in it and install some 13x10 gold 100 spoke daytons with 155R13 white walls and you're all set. Maybe do the interior in brown velour with a nice "Tuck 'n' Roll" too.
Sorry, but that color is flat out nasty.
But as long as you like it, that's all that counts.
Rod.

oh well...I guess I'll have to take my 2300Lb 130mph poor little L26 powered car back to hybridZ for the same reason I moved from Zdriver last year.
Too much like some of the the three-fiddy Z forums out there.
A bunch of people here are cool like bleachzee and a couple others but the majority are just dumb...That's why I left. Very little respect for new ideas like this.
I rebuilt this engine for less than $150 and I really don't care what others think about it. The car is pretty crappy anyways. It will keep it's own with some vettes and modern cars like turbo neons and most mustangs so whatever...And when I hit the first turn they find out I have a built coilover suspension...
If you don't have something of importance to say then make yourself look smarter by sitting there quiet or say "that's a pretty cool idea to powdercoat an engine block"...
I mean you can pretty much select any color under the sun or mettalic or color shifting paint and find a powdercoat that is the same...

A little touchy aren't we?
I wasn't trying to be a dick. Settle down there turbo.
If you noticed, I wrote that as long as you like it, that's all that counts.
Just because I hate the color doesn't mean i don't think it's cool.
I was just making a little fun.
Chill out, or you're just acting like the same ******** you say you're trying to get away from.

before I did it we had a full-out thread about how to outgas the block and other technical stuff to do...
And pretty much everyone liked it.
Most of them know that the outside of my car is totally anti-bling but the engine bay is very minimalistic but what is there is going to look good and function just as good.

Looks good OTM! Im interested to see how it holds up, I'v always thought it would be a neat idea. And although it wouldn't be my first choice I like the color.
I know a lot of you dont like the color but this guy used it on his motor. Not that it proves anything but I believe he has one of the fastest if not the fastest L28 powered Z cars....

I think his user name over at HybridZ is TimZ. If I remember correctly he said that those Dyno numbers were just a start and his injectors were way to small or something...
