Shifter T5?
Again another couple questions for you pros out there about this tranny I have. I bought this 5 speed transmission to replace the stock 4 speed that came in my 73. It's marked with a paint pen "81 ZX". Anyway... I was looking at the Z parts on Ebay and saw some shifter bushings that they said wouldn't fit the T5. I got to looking at the difference in the two shifters and the one that came with the 5 speed has some sort of spring device built in the bushings. Is this a T5 tranny that I have? The shifter that came out of the 4 speed looks to be a little longer from the securing pin and clip to the bottom bushing. Also the shifter that goes with the 5 speed is shorter in total length and doesn't have the big off-set bend in it like the original 4 speed. Will it work in my 73? Will I have to have the shifters cut to get the proper bend or will the short one that came with the 5 speed work in my application? Thanks,
alan

See the attached image. Nissan transmission on top, Borg Warner T5 on bottom.
The T-5 has a rectangle plate that bolts down with four small bolts. The shifter goes through this plate into a receiver below. There is no pin to hold the shifter in. The Nissan transmissions came in two types. The early transmissions 1974 and before were all 4-speeds (in the US). The later transmissions starting in 1975 were long tail transmissions and have the pin you describe as pictured in the upper tranmission.

There is the diffrence in the shifter still. It's like the two prongs that support the shifter are just a little shorter on the five speed. I haven't seen another shifter like it advertized or anything. I tried the four speed shifter in the five speed and it looks like it may work. Did you have to push the shifter down in the motion to shift to reverse in the five speeds?
