3 grand to blow, how should i do it? opinions please

ok, well, ray finally sent the rest of the money today (thanks ray im feeling pretty good that the car is going to a good home and a much better climate, keep her indoors or under a cover) so he is sending me 3200. now some of it will probably have to go to the p-units for some money i owe them. however, i want some performance suggestions. im either going to save it and just spend a few hundred on finishing up the interior of the car and a better clear job on the car (plus touch up a few spots) and then sell the 280 and combine the money to get a Z32. or i can spend 2k in performance but what the hell would i do with it? i wouldnt mind turboing the car but then ill be changing the exhaust loosing the sound it has and i love and i wouldnt want to use the same head. basically id end up wasting some money there. supercharging it would be fun **** but i dont know if i have the fab skills to make it happen. id like to build a higher comp motor but i dont think it will yield the gains im looking for in order to keep me interested in the car. and then i come to a motor swap all together, aka some sor of SR or maybe even RB but then we are back to the money.... just toss some idea's up kiddies im not serious as to one decision or the other yet but something has to happen cause the 280 looks good corners good but the pull just isnt up to par for me. how much does an LSx motor cost these days? and then as far as the mounts go, would the 350 motor swap kit work i wonder?

well u keep wanting a z32 so i would look for one, that way u can keep your 280 for kicks. or u can get some coilovers, lsd, nice rims/tires,fiberglass parts. i would vote for a z32 for a good daily driver. for a ls1 with a 6 speed tranny your looking around 3-5k. thats a great swap but can be just as much of a nightmare then turboing. i know money burns in the pocket but what about just throwing it in the bank and keeping it for a z32 when u get extra money?

its an option man, i very viable one, i just want to hear idea's im not set on spending i like i said, just guaging some interest or any well known price facts known by people for popular swaps. in the end im only going to have one Z though. not 2. not for a long time.

with my outlook on cars i would do this:
spend a few hundred to get the 280 in pretty tip top condition with the setup that it has. drive it pretty much as is for a little bit, to ensure reliability, and save the rest of that money. when you get tired of it, sell it to get the Z32TT. then you get the best of both worlds. the elegant old 280 with the super sound, then the more modern and extreme 300+ hp TT. once you have that car, i doubt you could regret that plan

Just my thoughts:
Save the money and finish up with school. Keep the (paid for) 280. Put the 3k in an IRA (ROTH, if you qualify) or in an after-tax savings plan, in a somewhat boring balanced fund. Making a (fairly) low assumption of 5% rate of return, it takes 11 years for your money to double. If it's in an IRA, that's 48k when you're 65, assuming you're about 21 now. Otherwise, it grows some and maybe you'll have a good chunk of a downpayment to get a garage (oh, with a house, I guess, if you have to have one...) once you're flyin' for $. Saving in your 20s puts you way ahead.

Of course, blowing it all at once *would* be fun. In that case, buy a plane ticket to Germany, rent something reasonably fun and drive Nurburgring. 3k would about cover that, if you didn't go overboard with the expenses. Or Italy, and rent a Ferrari to drive for a day, just because.
enjoy, either way!
Dave

Keep the 280z, but please don't 350 it. My opinion though. But that 280z does look sweet man.

yea that is the truth. my calc teacher made a spread sheet showing that with $50 a month for X years then $500 a month for N more years gives you an insane amount of money when you are 70 if compounded by 11% i think it was. which is attainable in a good mutual fund. it's so much that you can start taking out $10000 per month, and it keeps growing
i love that example.

Unless he is retiring tomorrow morning, don't freak. The market always fluctuates...

Ellis Juan? Screw that, it's a 10k swap when you total in everything. Keep the L28, you're riding fresh. The Z32 can wait, but if you want it now it's your decision so go for it. You could always invest the cash and just use it later like they suggested.

Put the money into a stock market account. My friend has an account with a company called UBS, and they take your money and trade it on the stock market. He put in $5000 not too long ago, and it has doubled since then...

Or buy another car that has the performance you are looking for without the tinkering. Always good to have reliable power.

wtf?!?! didnt i not comment in here? its gone gone gone!

i said that if i do decide to performance mod the 280 its going to be high comp pistons and a thin felpro head gasket with ARP head studs and conecting rod bolts for a hopefully slightly higher than 10.5:1 CR and then also rebuild the head and get a MSA stage IV cam. do in ignition setup like shady280 did and maybe an LSD like power brute for the rear and the obvious like new main bearings rod bearings and timing chain setup. and hope for 200WHP or better think thats pretty realistic? i do. also i asked if you think a shop (a good shop) could slightly lighten and balance the crank just to free up the engine of a little more rotational mass. i think there was more to that post but i cant remember it right now. oh and if you think id be needing bigger injectors, id imagine it would be a good possibility but i cant really answer that in my head. i just dont know....

EDIT: here is my original post i miss placed lol

oh so ive decided if i do do anything with this car motor wise, its to put high comp stock bore pistons in it with a mild/agressive cam (stage IV by MSA) and a rebuilt head. and then of coarse ignition upgrades like shady did, ARP rod bolts and head studs, use the thin felpro HG i got some where round here, and idk, think ill need larger injectors?

think i can get 200WHP or better? i think id be happy with that.

plus that should cost me less than a grand. hopefully around 600 actually. oh and of coars all new timing chain accessories and probably a turbo oil pump. any other things to toss on that list other than the obvious line main bearings and crap? i wonder if i can safely and efficiently get the crank lightened and balanced.

oh crap that was the wrong one, there was another burnt out **** hole for the same price that WASNT an auction, theres alot of foreclosed housing in detroit that goes for nutso cheap, some of it isnt burnt out either, that was just the cheapest.

detroits housing market was the worst in the country this time last year. decent homes selling for arround a grand at auction, for only a little more than that straight up
