4 SPEED AUTO CONVERSION

4 SPEED AUTO CONVERSION
Filled it up with tranny fluid. Took it out for a ride. First ride didn't use the od. second ride unhooked the wire. Had a big smile on my face when the od kicked in. :-) I put the 3.90 rearend in today. Before the rpms with the 3.54 rearend was 3k @60 mph. Now with the 3.90 rearend and od the rpms have dropped to 2k @60 mph.
Shifting is a little wierd right now. The assembly goop is still working it's way thru the tranny. And the noise is taking away from the engine sound. Will let everyone know how it works when the exhaust gets done.

Re: 4 SPEED AUTO CONVERSION
I bought the transmission from Todd Wheeler. He used a maxima transmission with valve body mods for the turbo. maxima flexplate, maxima torque converter with lock up. 2500rpm stall.
Those aren't exact numbers, but close enough to like the difference. Check this site out. Punch in any number you wish.

My car before the swap was---3 spd auto( 3rd gear 1:1, I used a four spd tranny for the 1:1 ratio. They didn't have a 3 spd auto set up), 205 60 15 tires, 3.54 rearend.
My car after the swap---4 spd auto(3 gear the same 1:1, 4th gear .686), same tires, 3.90 rearend.
The spdo gear is not for the 3.90, but it isn't off by that much to make a big difference.

Darrel,
That's great!!!! I'm glad everything went well!!!! Maybe youre a pioneer and more people will follow in your footsteps. Maybe you should create a write-up, I'm sure someone would give you webspace, if you don't already have your own.
I think a Datsun Pickup would benefit from such a transmission. My grandpa's '82 Datsun P/U has the stock 3-speed auto and stock rear end, and is something like 3,000 RPM @ 60 MPH... 4,000 rpm gets you something like 80 mph.... reallly high...
