5 speed, clutch, flywheel
77 280z, soon will be replacing 5 speed, looking for input on options (looking for durability w/o much change in ratios), please let me know of mods. eventually I would like to have HP in the 220 range (L28).
Aluminum Flywheel, is this a good bang for buck mod or just a detailed squeeze for HP?
It was sugested to use 2+2 flywheel & clutch (77 280z) as a price point.

Re: 5 speed, clutch, flywheel
If you are looking to replace your 5-speed to get one that can handle 220hp, then don't bother. Even the factory Datsun 510 transmisisons can handle that horsepower. Your 77 280Z 5-speed should be able to handle somewhere around 275 horsepower and I'm sure some people have used them in even more powerful turbo engines.
If you want a simular gear ratio replacement though, go for the 1977-80 Z and ZX. The 81-83 ZX is closer ratio, but 1st gear starts out higher. Only use that transmission if you have a 3.9:1 or lower differential.
The 2+2 flywheel has a wider contact point. That gives you some extra grab, but is probably not nessisary for your car. Go for a regular coupe flywheel for the least amount of horsepower loss through the clutch.
