lol, the police will be like,,, DURRR and put a tow notice on it, then tow it away. lol. in all honesty, if its in a field sitting, prolly not to much you can use from it. id say just leave it be. whatever it does have to offer probably wont add up to the time for stealing. but then again, this is coming from a guy who has either done or been an accomplice to many types of theft.... lets see, 2 dirt bikes, one kawasaki ZX6, and 2 golf carts...... hmmm... yeah i think thats aboot it. so who am i to say anything?
EDIT: oh but the crotch rocket doesnt really sorta count. cause the "owner" never got the title from the PO and i happened to know where to get the title, did, signed it, grabbed the bike where it was being stored at another friends house.... and teh rest is history. thats what i call squeeky clean dirty bussiness. got my a crotch rocket for only 100 dollars in bribe money. SUCKAS!!!!

There was a thread on zcar.com around 6 months ago, where someone wanted to get a hold of an abandoned (Z) car in California. It turned out Cali has an easy process for random people to file to claim the car as abandoned and can legally tow it away to do whatever they'd like with it. I vaguely remember that it was something less than $20 to file the papers and have the DMV do the title search, and it maybe took a week total. Several people on that site have done a number of abandoned car claims and gotten some nice parts and projects. Of course, if it's obvious who owns the lot, just ask. Otherwise, it's just theft.
Anyway, try that thread on zcar, search the Cali DMV web site (www.dmv.ca.gov), or just call the DMV. They're actually pretty helpful on the phone as they'd rather you come in with everything already filled out and ready to go. This winter I'll follow my own advice and look into the 240Z that's been sitting across the street from work for at least 3 years. The slot mags alone would be worth it to me.
good luck!

If someone calls the cops you will be arrested and be suspected of grand theft auto, not worth a few parts. Here in Nevada they have what is called a class "C Tow". You get the form from your nearest tow service. The owner of the property simply signs the paper. The tow company picks up the car and holds it while they do a DMV check. If the registered owner doesn't claim it in 30 days you get the car! If it gets claimed it cost you $12. If not it cost you $212. You have to pick up the car or have it towed to your place and you get a clean title. I'm sure other states have similar policys. The property owner is found by calling the county registrars office, they even have the phone number. I got a complete rust free '78 in need of some wiring that way.

That's not what I hear. Seems to me there are are lot of reasons much better than that to dislike you. Anyone who can read and search the site can find all that info on their own. I strongly encourage it.
