Re: Aftermarket AC
MSA makes an A/C kit that apparently is a Sanden unit and works very well in the Datsun Z. They include brakets and all. I have also heard of Vintage Air units installed. Neither are cheap, mind you, but both should work well. The MSA kit is not a "universal unit" and is made specifically for the Z application.
You could also go to the wrecking yard and pull as much A/C as you can from another Z. An A/C shop can fabricate the lines and charge the system for you.

Re: Aftermarket AC
I know this doesn't help, but my '71 had an aftermarket A/C put on by some previous owner, and I just happen to have some extra A/C parts..
Davy mentions that an A/C can fabricate the system to work makes me feel much better... now I know I can get A/C on my Z )
