I am actually woundering if there is a difference in crank design of the automatic L seirs motor vs the manual version. My freind says they have different bolt paterens. This sounds stupide (money wise to me) they would have to design two parts and stock two parts seems like it would cause more problems.

Your friend is wrong. The cranks are the same.

The only difference is that you need to put a pilot bushing in the crank with the standard, and you don't need that bushing with the automatic. (very easy to install)
