Back seat in non 2+2

I don't have my z yet but am gonna get one and was wondering if someone can measure the distance between the wheel wells on the inside and also the distance from the front edge to the shock towers, I've found racing bench seats that are only 20in deep and 36in wide also avalible in 40in &42in

I'm also gonna cut and drop the section in front of the shock towers even with the trans tunnel so people will actually fit

OK, on my early 260Z, the wheel-well distance is 40.5" and the distance between the shock tower braces, measured at the bottom is 23.25" (I know, you didn't ask for that number). From the front lip to the base of the tower is 10.75" and the shock tower itself is approximately 11" high.

Don't know which car you have but beware, the later 260Z and 280Zs beefed up their struts/shocks and the towers are a different size, i.e. a bit bigger. I think the early 260Z and 240Zs are the same.

Just curious, are you trying to add a back seat to a non-2+2 or are you thinking of replacing your buckets with the bench?

If you're trying to add a back seat, you're going to have a headroom problem, unless you're just putting kids there. Even then, you are going to have to do some major work to provide seat belt anchors for them.

Just doesn't seem like this project is thought out ...

I'm gonna cut the section in front of the shock towers where the storage spots are and lower it about 4in(I have a welder) for head room

Probably only 10" at the shock towers though. It does go back further between the towers.

Maybe this will help. An early 260Z parts car, stripped.

Thank you, I got the whole car planned out.. a dark metallic gray with black six spoke deep dish rims with fender flares...I'm gonna build and turbo the straight six... completely overhaul the suspension with top of the line performance parts.. And to provide additional leg room for the back seat I'm going to put in slimmer(than stock) racing seats... A touch screen double din audio system with two amps and two 10 or 12in sub's... And I'm going to replace the stock bumpers with 11\2in tube bumpers(that don't wrap around the side, and have the ends cut diagonal for a clean look) then a custom roll cage I've drawn out)...... I have every last detail of this planned out I love everything about a z with a pasion

Must say that would be impressive, what about the legalities of it as far as transporting people back there? Do you have to get the anchors certified for seatbelts etc? A 2+2 in a 2 seat shell is most amazing!!

I haven't looked into it but if everything is bolted down properly I think it should be alright and I'm gonna have harnesses because I plan on using that racing bench seat

32.5" between the towers if you cut off the braces on the early 260Z. If you get a later car, it will be a little less.
