Beginner Questions
Let me give you a little backround. I am a beginner when it comes to cars. I love them butI am not experienced with working on them. I want to learn and am looking for a project car. I have a special love for the 240z and also know enough that they are fairly easy to work on due to large amounts of space under the hood.
I have recently found a deal where I can get 2 240z's for cheap. The one I'd fix up(the one with the nice body), would need at very least a new head gasket, or maybe even a new or remachined head. It has an L28 engine.
The other car also has the L28. It has a freshly remachined head. It also was flared out and has wide tires, header, and is generally good mechanically. The body is a rusty peice of crap. It was running before the previous owner jacked the plugs and starter.
Would these 2 cars be worth 1000?
Also, would it be easier/more beneficial to switch out just the head, or just switch out the whole engine head combo.
Another question is what other mods would I need to do to accomodate the increase in power of the L28. I am not sure the previous owner did anything else.
My last question is would they flare the fenders just for looks or does it affect tire fitting?
Thanks very much for the help,
-Matt

Re: Beginner Questions
I'd say it would definately be worth it- if they are both in good condition. Might as well swap the engine- use the better one. You don't need to upgrade anything in the driveline, but a five speed is a good idea. I don't know about in america, but in australia it is illegal to have tires that portrude from the fenders- so if you fit larger fenders, you can fit wider tires. Good luck, and believe me you will love your Zed
