carb help

What hooks up to this???

First off, this is a 1978 280Z with an E88 head and dual carb setup off a 72 240Z. Despite all the cussing, screaming and ranting, it wont start without someone pushing and holding those things up and the other person constantly pumping the gas . However, the carbs flood out and end up spitting gas everwhere, or the engine ends up racing . Not good for the neighborhood elderly since it's running an open header. Went to a Nissan dealership in town and the "specialists" were just as confused as me. Any light on this problem would really help. Thanx.

Those levers you have circled are where the choke cables go. When you pull up on them it makes it suck more gas. It looks like your missing some other hoses and stuff too. If you want I can take some digital pics of a complete set up. Su's are very tempermental when they are cold. You can try holding the chokes halfway until it warms up or the cops come.

I think ZWatcher was just using the picture above as an illustration, because they are definately a set of carbs I am selling on eBay right now, and not the carbs in question. So yes, they don't have the choke cables and some of the other hoses because these parts are not included in the auction.
However, I always like to see pictures of other people's carbs, so I encourage theramz to please post his with his suggestions to help resolve the problem.

Here are my 4 screw 70-71 carbs on eBay to show what I mean -- I recognize my patio furniture, now serving as a breakfast table in my kitchen until the snow melts.

Good luck on resolving your carb problems, I'm going to replace a pair of Webers with another set of SUs I have (eventually) so any advice I learn here will be appreciated.

Also, anyone know where I can find a new cap for one of the domes. It seems to have the damper cap from the later Hitachi Carbs on one of the domes and it is cracked. I'd like to be able to help anyone thinking of bidding on these find a new cap.
