engine problem
I run a set of SU carbs on my L - 26, and the air filter on one of them caught fire the other night. I've replaced both air filter elements with new ones (with a gererous coating of filter oil), and I stripped and cleaned the carbs. However, now my engine feels very rough at idle, and there is ABSOLUTELY no power under 3000 rpm. The engine just stalls. However, the motor still revs from 3000 onwards, and it seems to hold compression ok. Has anyone out there suffered a similar problem? Any help will be greatly appriciated

Re: engine problem
Im not sure how they caught fire, one of my friends was driving (yeah...I know, my mistake) and the car spit, like it always does in the cold. then there was a puff of smoke form under the hood. When tuning the carbs, do the nuts on both carbs turn the same way to make the mixture richer? Also which was is it to make the mixture richer, and which way to make it leaner?
