Re: FWD RWD AWD??
since the subject came up, how would you go about making a 280zx into an all wheel drive? .. is it even possible?, dont care about the cost, just curious
thanks,

Re: FWD RWD AWD??
didn't know someone was doing an awd conversion in the bay - but if you know who it is, and if they don't mind, i'll get pictures. as for someone in the bay doing an rb26dett conversion, you're looking at him (in future, anyways, not enough cash/garage space right now)

Re: FWD RWD AWD??
I think I saw one at one of the shows at Fremont a couple of months ago. It looked kinda funny because it looked like they added a 240 shell on this 4 X 4. It had big mud tires on it. Motorsport Auto has a pic of it in their photo album at their shop.

Re: FWD RWD AWD??
The 1980 Datsun 720 4x4 has an L20b engine and front independent suspension. If you retain the rear suspension of the Z, it might be possible to use the 720 4x4 transaxel on the L6 because it will bolt right up. The independant suspension should be able to be lowered pretty well and keep the Z low to the ground.
The purpose of this setup would most likely be for performance street use, not wheelin'
It sure would add some weight to the Z!

Re: FWD RWD AWD??
hi
i came across a scan from a japanese magazine with the drive train from a skyline in an early z not sure where I found it.
Only in japan!!!!!!!
BTW apparently they had to bolt the transfer case directly to the diff

Re: FWD RWD AWD??
rb26dett is the powerplant found in the skyline gt-r, making "276" horsepower (severely underrated due to japanese 'gentleman's agreement', in reality about 280 at the wheels). The motor is RB series dual overhead cam block with a turbo per bank of 3 cylinders - hence, twin turbo. The transmission is awd, and the block can easily take 500hp or so on stock bottom end without any need for upgrades through increased boost. It's basically a detuned touring motor
