Gas Tank overhaul

Gas Tank overhaul
I'm about ready to start my new Z (other one was hit by a drunk neighbor). But this one hasn't been started in a few years and I want to drop the gas tank and reseal it and replace the lines. How hard is this and what should I look for?

Re: Gas Tank overhaul
If you have the Sport Z Magazine from Winter 2000, the premiere issue if I recall, they have an article in there that will answer most if not ALL your questions. They list availability of fuel line hoses etc. The article mainly covered replacement of the vent hoses, but you will find that removing the gas tank is part of that procedure.
If you include resealing the tank, it's not a one day or two day project. The length of time to reseal the tank is what will determine how long you have to have the tank out of the car. Some coatings are only a couple hours of set time and then replace, others requrie up to 4 days drying time.
Since you're going to have the tank out, it would be a good idea to prep and repaint the exterior of the tank at this time too. You may find that the undercoating that was originally put on the car may be a bear to get off. Getting the tank dipped would get rid of the bulk of this stuff, but it may be spendy and difficult to find someone who will do a good job.
