Has anyone modified their radio housing like this?
I own a 1981 280ZX and was wondering if anyone modified
their radio housing like the one in the attached picture. If
you have, could you please give instructions on how you did
it.
Thanks,
Vernon Z

I have not done that, but I've seen that picture before. To me, it looks like they just carefully removed the ash tray, lighter, and accessory switch. You'll have to carefully grind the plastic away because it is all one piece up to the edge. The center plate could be almost any material like aluminum or wood. It appears to be covered in black vinyl. That doesn't look too hard to do if you want a double-din CD player. that one actually looks larger than double-din.

I wasn't so much looking at it as a place for my radio,
but as a space to mount auxillary guages, switches, etc.
It just looks like if you do the mod, there is a lot of room to work with. I appreciate the info.
