I'd like to throw her an offer sometime after the sale ends, even if she said not a penny less then $10,200. Suggestions?

Wish you guys could talk some sense into her so I could actually have a shot at the car at a reasonable price. I'll have to pass on this one I guess.

Heres the '83 ZXT I was originally looking at. Well, for $10,000, I would rather have that 240Z ... Oh well, theyre both nice cars.. just out of my range.

Wow guys I found a 1 owner 50,000 original mile 99% all original '73 Z in 'mint' condition. Only thing that isn't original are the carbs, which are supposedly dual downdraft weber carbs. The seller seems nice and genuine, he sent me 3 different emails two of which consisted of high resolution pictures and the third asking for me to check it out in person, which I don't think I can because its 6 hours away.

Heres the description he has in his ad,
Presenting Datsun's finest. 1973 240Z with 50,000 Original Miles. This car is 99% original, beautiful paint, Great running engine and 4 speed transmission. Car is equipped with rear louvers, hood vents, and A/C...All factory options. Engine is equipped with dual downdraft weber carburators that compliment the car extremely well. Interior is 99% Perfect, Looks like it did in 1973. YOU WILL NEVER FIND A Z CAR IN THIS GOOD ORIGINAL CONDITION EVER AGAIN...Did i mention that it is for sale by the original owner...Showroom vehicle that will only go up in value...
Unfortunately, this guy wants $11,500. $1,000 more then the last seller haha. Although, this car is half the distance away and less then half the mileage

yeah, looks like a better deal if you can see it in person. What area is he in? maybe one of the members on here might live closer to him than you so they can check it out for ya.

The guy lives in Elk Grove up at Sacramento. I'm going to think about it before I respond but I'm only in town till the 23rd, so I have to make a move on it soon if I plan to make a move at all.

11.5k is a lot for a non series one car but I guess it's reasonable if it really only has 50k miles. Keep in mind that the value of this particular car is in it's originality and low milage and it would have to stay that way in order to maintain it's value. Think about what you will be doing with the car. If you will be modding it you really don't need to pay extra for an all original car.

edit: Post some pictures of it.

Yeah I know, I'm rethinking whether I'll modify it or not. The car really is beautiful in its originality. I don't plan on modifying the car I do get anytime soon after I pick it up whether its an original or not. Sort of a buffer time to think about what I like and what I don't. I don't mind if the car loses its value if modified, but its obviously something I'll keep in mind Anyhow, heres some resized pictures that he sent me.

On another note, the ebay auction ended at $4950.00 reserve not met and I received a message a few minutes after..
SO WHAT IS YOUR PRICE RANGE???
I have yet to respond..

Daniel

Edit: Sorry for double post, it said I had 11 images and could only post 10 images if this message was included, I guess the quotes count as images or something?

That z looks nice.

130,000 miles, If it's in excellent condition & needs nothing... I'd offer 8,000 maximum... I prefer silver but if you like yellow, same difference.

That may seem high for some but if condition checks out, it's a fair price for a 'unique' car... I'd start deducting for any flaws but it depends on how much you like it.

I paid $8,300 on ebay for my black 280ZX (122,000 miles) a couple of years ago and about $5,000 extra on miscellaneous stuff afterwards... might've been a little high 2 years ago! ... but I wanted it.

With only 1 feedback for the seller, you really need to check the car.

Yeah I was talking with my dad and a Datsun enthusiast friend of mine and I remember saying I thought the car was worth anywhere from the current bid up to $8,000-ish. I'm not throwing any offers out yet since this new car came up on the table. Both Z's appear to be in great condition. I just wanted to let you all in on what I've been up to, and of course the good feedback around here.

The new car you're looking at is a very nice car but there are a few things to point out. The hood vents are not original. It has a dash cap. You would expect a crack free dash for a $11k car. The chrome trim on the door panel flaked off too. Otherwise it looks like a solid car.

Yeah I noticed those things, minus the flaked off chrome trim. Where did the hood vents come from? Are they aftermarket or were they an option?

Vents look aftermarket to me. If they were colour coded and recessed louvre types it could have been a later 260Z bonnet. Really dont like that colour...

The '73 looks very nice also. Not having the original carbs on the '73 is not necessarily a bad thing.....

The more I see the yellow ones, the more tempted I am to paint mine that color (its original color).

The hood looks like 260 or 280 vents for sure. Personally, I like the vents, so I wouldn't consider it a downside. But for negotiation you could say "Well, the hood's not original, so I'd have to deduct x..."
good luck!

Yah...Zs are like women...the more you look for the right one, the least likely you'll find her. Just relax....and when you least expect it...the right one will appear.

I may be getting the Z pictured above with the vents. He said if there is some commitment to purchase he'll sell for 10k. I'll probibly decide tomorrow or so and get the car next week if I follow through
