High Compression Ratio vs Fuel
My car is in the body shop and is going to be ready next week and I cant wait to do the engine , now I need some advise , I wanna build a 11.1 compression ratio engine , with a wild cam and SU carbs . The question is , what can I do to run normal octane fuel, and if I cant , what can I add to the 93 octane fuel to run without detonation . Well thanks for any info .........

Re: High Compression Ratio vs Fuel
First you could drop the compresion down to 10 to 10.5to1.
once you hit the 11 mark your engine won't run right even if you put a ton of oct booster with 93. where do you get 93 I can only get 92. I had a Z motor with 11.5 I had to run at least 5 gallons of race fuel with a full tank of gas. It would knock really bad if I didn't. It would rap out all the way to 9000 rpm. If your gonna put SU's on it get a hold of Scott or Sean I don't remember his name at Z therapy. It's worth the money. I ran triples on mine. It was alot of fun but I got tired of driving from 50 miles every week with hugh gas cans in the back of my Z just to get race fuel . My buddy Had one that wouldnt run on anything but race fuel. He sold it to a kid who wrapped it around a pole a couple of weeks later. It was a beatiful car.

Your gas in the States sucks. We have two type, 91 for my girls toyota 1.3 and 96 which is what my baby drinks. Sometimes I run her on 50/50 but there's much more power in the top end with the 96. I thought that 96 was reasonably standard around the world. Do you guys have cheap stuff and premium or just one grade in the middle?

Re: High Compression Ratio vs Fuel
There are 2 different ways to measure octane. The one we use in Australia is the Research Octane Number (RON) and I believe that the measurement standard in the US is based on the SAE value. From memory, our (Aus) regular unleaded (92RON) is equivalent to the 89 octane US stuff.
For hi-comp engines here (>11.0:1) most people use the 110RON Avgas, but to buy that stuff for your car now you need an accepted entry form to a motorsports competition.
