Re: HVLP paint guns
I asked around a little, and the general opinion was no. Sounds like it would work, but not effeciently enough to do a good job.
Good luck,

Re: HVLP paint guns
Hi Datto and HI Ghost------------HVLP guns unfortunately are here to stay in the paint and body shops----------You asked good question as to whether or not your compressor could handle the task-------------this ofcourse has a two part answer-------first would be that yes your compressor could handle the use of the HVLP gun, but only for limited bursts----------basically probably no longer than a 2 or 3 minute spray cycle-------The second answer would be no----------due to the high volume of air the gun uses the spray pattern could vary during the spraying-----which would leave uneven to blotchy coverage to the painted surface...................
I use both convential siphon cup guns and hvlp guns in my work--------but out of the two different types of guns I use i prefer the siphon gun(I have boths a binks 18 and a devilibiss 502)--------------both of my siphon guns are over 25yrs old but they just keep working better with age............
I do have about 6 different HVLP guns and quite honestly I prefer not to use them-------------These guns were originally created to help prevent the formation of overspray-----------to be honest they create more overspray to the object that you paint and less to the atmosphere------where as the siphon gun creates more to the atmosphere but less to the object being painted-------------so yes the pluses and minuses are still at work-------------The HVLP guns use enormous amounts of air for their operation------they do use a little bit less paint(but not that much)--------they are ackward to paint with------and they take lots of time to dial in both the air pressure and spray patterns for perfect application--------
I hope this little info helped
