Just bought '77 280z!!
1st time Z-car owner, happy as heck!
Paid $400.
Its a '77 280z, manual tranny, AC, not a lot of rust underneath, floor panels look good, dash is perfect and interior not to bad, need to find drivers side mirror, and front windshield trim.
Ebay the best place to look? (i will scan the ads here too)
Guy said it ran but has "leaky fuel hoses".
Been sitting in a garage for a few years.
Any tips or hints?
Is it a 4 or 5 speed? (guy didn't know)
signed love my new Datsun..

77 280z
if it's a 77, it's most likely a 5-speed. I have a 76 280z and it's only a 4-speed. I'm pretty sure it was in 77 that they added a fifth gear. I get all my z parts and miscellaneous items from motorsport. They specialize in restorations of z's. www.zcarparts.com.

The '77 does have a 5 speed but fifth shares the same tree as reverse so it's week. upgrade to the T-5 if you can. It's an actual 5 speed and very tough. msa is an excellent place to pick things up for the Z. I've got a '77 myself. Check e-bay first though. There's a guy on there right now parting out an entire '78 which is damn near identical to the '77.

What kind of smog laws do you have there?. I ma able to remove all my smog here so that isnt a worry. I am gonna start taking tha extra stuff off my intake tonight. I will let you know how it is working.
BTW: how do you get the photos posted on the posts? I have done it once but I dont remeber how.

no emissions for her at this time so i want everything off that does nothing towards spinning the back tires.
(pictures: its says attach file below your reply window)
You do it your way, ie, take off 1 at a time and see what happens, i'll try the reverse like an idiot, leave it all off and add what you come up with as needed for smooth operation...lol
Anywho will keep the PCV/crankcase vents and the ERG for now.
Rest of it goes in a box marked useless weight...
gonna ditch the cold start valve also if possible seeing as how i live in Fla, also the fast idle for AC, the BCDD, the vacuum switching valve(tranny controled advance), the dash pot, the BPT valve, and maybe the charcol canister and vacuum tank/cannister for good measure

What about back into the vent on the Boot in front of the AFM . That becomes availible when you remove the air regulator. I just diconnected the air regulator and the car jumped in idle then died. So I restarted and it backfired and died. I then plugged the whole from the throttle body to the air regulator and the car runs fine. I am going to finish removing it after I defrost. It is 16 degrees outside and I dont have a heater in my garage yet. From what I can tell as long as you cap things properly you should beable to remove most of the extra crap.
