Need advise on my 240 project, previous POOR repairs

Well, I finally found some time to tear into my 240 project that I got from my grandpa. I have the interior removed and most of the exterior panels removed. I found some rust hiding under the bondo in front of the rear wheel wells (rocker panel area), the floor boards are rusted in some places, and the front frame rails have some rust on them... So I ordered new metal for the quarter panels, rocker panels, and floor boards. And I was going to replace the frame rails with some 2x3 square tubing.

I have made an unhappy discovery though,, after cutting open the passenger side rocker panel I found that somebody before me laid a new rocker skin over the old and welded it down and did nothing for rust protection. So I figure that I can just replace the whole rocker panel, no biggie...

Heres where it gets bad,, (I think) there is a piece of something (maybe chicken wire) covering a huge whole in the "A" pillar on the passenger side. There is more chicken wire or whatever covering MULTIPLE holes in the firewall and frame rail on the passenger side. And I took some measurements, the passenger side front strut tower is about 1/4" towards the rear compared to the driver side. I think that the whole front of the car is diamond shaped instead of square....

Now I am starting to think that this car has been wrecked before on the passenger front pretty good. I am thinking that its not worth trying to fix, and maybe I should try and find another vehicle to start my project on.

What do you guys think? I maybe have 700 bucks into this car so far, so I can cut my losses pretty easily.

Where do you live? In my opinion, living in California where I can get a decent rolling 240 for <$1000, sometimes $500, I would cut my losses and salvage what is useful. However, if you live in colder environs, you might not have as much luck finding a replacement. Here are a couple of examples in my area:

I live in Utah,, kinda hard to find really good replacements.

I will see if I can get some pictures up, but I don't have a digital camera so it might take a while! haha

I am most worried about the front being diamond shaped, I don't want to spend a bunch of time and money only to have a car that can't be aligned or dog-tracks when I am done

Let me see how my week turns out,, I have mid-terms all week so I am supposed to be studying lol

I wonder if somebody could take a few measurements for me, so I could compare mine to another vehicle.

I have been measuring from the forward most strut bolt, to the firewall.
