new 260z fuel problem

So I'm having a problem with my '74 260z 2 seater coup. It has the dual weber carbs on it. The problem im having is when i try to accelerate hard or even try to drive at above 2500 rpm's (like on the highway) the car loses power, sounds like it ran out of gas and dies. If i pull over for a few minutes the car will start back up and i can drive it again. I know the car has an electric fuel pump, but it also has what looks like a mechanical fuel pump off the front passenger side of the motor. I'm wondering if that fuel pump could be what's causing the problem? Any insight would be greatly appreciated because I have to drive on the highway regularly and want this problem fixed. Thanks in advance!

Fuel pump/pressure issue, or you need to adjust the float level in the carbs.

Check your mechanical pump, it my be leaking fuel into the block. Mine was shot, I pulled it, blocked off the opening and changed the oil. The electric pump works great all by itself.
