New 260Z owner
I just got a 260Z and everything on it is almost perfect. Little to no rust, and I mean little!
The body is perfect and the interior all working
The only thing that is bad on it is the powerplant... the engine was in pieces and when I looked at it, I just wanted to fall to my knees with a white flag... Gawd I hate it when people start something and don't finish it with a big mess to clean up.
Anyway, I'll have pictures up of it as soon as I can and detailed ones for further help. I was told the radiator hose burst and the engine overheated, so I know I'm possibly dealing with an engine that may have warped somewhere or will possibly seize in the near future if I manage to get it running.
I'd like to know what are some good (reasonably priced!) part vendors for the 260s. Also more important, what would a head gasket cost me? apparently when the engine overheated, the head gasket blew with it... which makes me suspicious but I'm not going to worry about it just yet. I just want to try and get it going again.
As for my needs list:
Head gasket
Alternator
all hoses
and possibly carburetors
I'll add more to the list as I find out more (unless someone shows me a great site with great prices)

looks like your going to have fun trying to get that engine back together. if you planning to stay as carbs do yourself a favor and get the 240 carbs. the 260 flats will give you more headaches. also noticed you will need a coolant housing that has a temp sensor. and a fan. as well as many other things. you can throw some body shots up. to please our addiction.

But I do have an L24 with the carbs, so you suggest to just use the carbs from the L24? and just so I'm sure, what numbers can I look up on the carb to ensure they are indeed for (from) an L24?
Also, here are more pictures and some you request

I found about 2 lbs. of dog food in the air box of my wifes car! Those little guys were busy!
The earlier SUs have round domes on top. There is a 3 screw and a 4 screw version, I don't know which one is best. Use the head off the early 240 if you can. The later E88 smog head has smaller quench area to run hotter.
