overheating/temp guage?
alrighty.. 73 240z...
lately the temp guage on my car has been registering very hot.. it reaches the 250 hash mark after about 10 minutes of driving.. i have a hard time believing that it is that hot...
im running a 3 core radiator and have not noticed any leaking or anything of that nature..
also... the car has not stalled on me or anything.. so i don't think it really is that hot.
so.. a few questions...
1- is there any way for me to check the temp?
2- ive read that the early z guages were notoriously bad.. is that the likely culprit?
3- could it really be gettin that hot? am i missing something?

Re: overheating/temp guage?
If it's registering that your car is running that hot, maybe the thermostat is bad, or if you're not using a fan shroud, you might not be getting the full cooling effect from the fan. Otherwise, the gauge is the culprit. Easiest way to measure the temp would be to get an Autometer water temp gauge. Sometimes the sender goes bad on the stock gauges, you could try replacing that.

Re: overheating/temp guage?
i have a 260Z 2+2 and i run no fan shroud with no problems and i live in brisbane queensland... and have a condenser infront of the radiator.
Check thermostat
If you are loosing coolant check your water pump.
To check your temperature sender (the thing on the front of the thermostat housing with two wires into it) screw another one in. And last try hooking another gauge up....
I have not had any problems with zed gauges.... all that i have found is that some clocks stop working....
