question on gear shift **** for 260Z

I just recently purchased a 74 260Z. It has a wooden gear shift **** with the 4 speed shift pattern. However I had a 260Z which I bought new and it had a black leather (or some type of leather looking material) shift ****. Would someone know if the wooden **** was an option or an aftermarket item?
Thank you for any help on this.

Thank you for the info on the gear shift ****. Now the next question, is there a production list by vin so I can find out if my 260 Z is an "early one", I think I remember reading that the later ones have a larger bumper, but I don't have another Z around to compare the size's.
thank you

the easy way to tell between early and late is to check out your front turn signal lights. Early (240 body) has 'em under the bumper in the lower valence, late has 'em above the bumper, in the grill like a 280 with a solid valence. There are, of course, a ton of other small and large differences, but thats one sure way to tell.
