r200 swap on 78 Z

So I came across a 87' 300zx and I'm wanting that open r200 diferential. I've done some research for this swap and kow it work but I'm curious bout a few things. Will my 78' Z axles fit right in the open r200 differential or will I have to buy the axles and all the brake assembly off the 300zx??? Thanks guys. I'm new to differentials and all...

So you have an R180 or R200 right now?

If you have an R180, then Google search "R180 R200 swap" and you'll find the how to. If you already have an R200, it's a straight swap.

This is what I found..

280z
77-78 MT = 3.545 (R200)
77-78 AT = 3.545 (R180)

300zx
84-87 NA = 3.7 (R200)

Is there something wrong w/ your stock R200? Seems like a lot of work for nothing.

A great combo is '82 '83 2+2. Has close ratio 5 speed and 3.9 open diff. The 77_78 was R200 only in the 5 speed. The early 5 speeds were weak.

Its literally bolt in with your stock 280Z parts if your 280 already had an R-200 in it.

Its the same diff. just with different gears and Limited slip.

Just an FYI: you can't use the Z31T LSD finned cover on the S30's because of the mustache diff mount. So you have to swap over the stock smooth cover.

All long nose R200's that aren't Z31T LSD's.
