relase clutch and engine dies
I was going to back out my 74 260Z outa my garage today. I fired up the engine, stepped on the clutch, relased the e-brake, stepped on the brake while i still had the clutch depressed, shifted into reverse, released the brake, and slowly let off the clutch. The car fired backward about 6 inches and then the engine just died. I fired it up again and repeated the process. Same story. I have tired with and without choke on, I have revved the engine up to get it hot before driving it, I have tried it going forward too, in all gears the engine dies once it is forced to drive the rear wheels. I'm thinking it may be the clutch or fuel system, but I'm not possitive. Any ideas? Thanx

I think you might have a short or loose connection in your wiring harness under the steering wheel. Since it runs until you release the clutch, it must be affected by the linkage under the dash. You might try unpluging each harness you can and spraying contact cleaner (from Radio Shack) on them. Disconnect the battery because the cleaner is flammable, a spark could catch you and your car on fire. These old cars get corosion on the contact pins which also causes increased resistance which is why so many fuse blocks are melted. People solve there blown fuse problems by putting in bigger fuses, not safe for the system. Let me know how you make out.
