Removal of Dashboard
I'm taking of my dash to get to the tacho to replace the indicator bulb, but i can't remove the screwss which secure the dash to the body cowl. I've taken of the embellisher, and one of the body cowl screws, but the rest are way too tight to turn, and i'm afraid i'll strips the screws. I don't **** to spray WD-40 inside the car, and i'm stuck on how to get them out. I don't think i can drill them out either as they are in a really awkward position

Re: Removal of Dashboard
A few years ago I helped my brother take a dash out of a 77 280 that was at a pick and pull yard. I think there were 4-6 mounting bolts along the top. We used a ratchet the had a torque head. It took a while to get out but we finally got it out. If you can get a hold of a impact wrench it might help. Otherwise the WD-40 is the only other way to loosen that puppy.

Re: Removal of Dashboard
I believe a 10mm socket with a long extension and a ratchet should work.
Its how I remove mine.
PS. Getting the corners back in are a pain.. I left those out. In fact putting any of those back in are a pain.
Come to think of it why are you pulling the dash to change the bulbs?
You can probably just pull the heater control panel and get to the tack to replace that.
Edited by godzilla on 01/04/02 09:42 PM.

Re: Removal of Dashboard
I got them out finally using a socket wrench (i just noticed they were hexagonal, which was then followed by a lot of swearing) I've followed the haynes manual, but i cannot find the side mounted bolts, i've removed every other thing the manual says (except wiring) but it still wont come out. I'm removing the dash cause i can't get my hands in to unscrew the tach, so i have to do it. Its a bitch of a job, and this is the first major thing i've done to my car (how can such a simple thing as changing a globe be major!?!)

Re: Removal of Dashboard
You _can_ get to all the globes without removing the dash.
Get someone with smaller hands to do the job!!! - the dash is one large, heavy thing that you don't want to pull out unless you REALLY have to. The tacho globes are the easy ones too!
If you insist on taking it out, if it's got any cracks in it, get it re-skinned at the same time.
You have to drop the steering column, as the dash is sandwiched between the column & the pedal box.
