Replacing oil pan gasket..... Can I just drop the oil pan....
My oil pan gasket has lost the ability to function, so I am goin to be replacing it. I was wondering, since the oil pan sits so close to the cross member do I need to pull the engine, or can I just drop the pan enough to get the gasket in there.
Thanks guys,
Charles

I remember pulling the pan in my 240z--- I don't remember having to lift the engine or anything. I may have put a jack on the tranny and disconnected the motor mounts.
It only took me like 45 minutes to do the whole thing. The hardest part (not hard but timely) was taking out all the oil pan bolts... man theres a lot of them!

get a gasket scraper and scrape off all possibly crap off the bottom end when you pull the pan off. Get some high temp rtv silicone, ie. permatex and put a layer on the block, on the pan, and both sides of the gasket. wait about 10 min to let it get a bit sticky, and bolt it in. Give it 24 hours to fully cure.
