Sealed Beam Conversion

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
I've got them. I got the first kind that are close to stock looking but with the newer bulbs. They are much brighter! And it doesn't take any more amp than a sealed beam.
But, if you're going to get some, get the kind with "Diamondback" or "Diamond Facet" rear reflectors. Those have a much better rear reflector. It looks like a late model car's headlights.
What I have is the one on the right. Not as good, but that's all that was available two years ago. Get the kind on the left.
Also, you can get this same upgrade for your Datsun 510, 521/620 trucks and other sedans like the B210, 810, Maxima...

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
IT IS EZ. Its the same as changing a sealed beam headlight.
1) You take out the old headlight and unplug it from the back.
2) You slip in the H4 bulb of your choice into the new housing.
3) You put the new housing in just like you put in a sealed beam headlight because they are the exact same demensions.
4) The plug in the back connects to the exact same pattern of prongs.
Turn on your lights!

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
On the 240z unplug the headlight bucket from the wiring harness in front of the radiator.Remove the 4 screws hold the headlight bucket in place from the underside of your front fender. Remove the bucket and remove 3 screws and the retaining ring. Remove old headlight and unplug. Install the new headlights in reverse order. In my car I also install a painless wiring kit with relays so my headlights power come from the batt and not through my car wiring. I use 100w h-4 bulbs. I took me about 2 hours for the wiring kit and the headlights.

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
They may say they are HID, but they are not true High Intensity Definition setups unless they have a ballast. Those systems start at about $300 on eBay up to 6 or 700.
What I am talking about is "HID Look" H4 style bulb upgrades. They are basically the next generation in Halogen lights. The pair of bulbs you buy should cost about $12 to $30 depending on power and quality. The headlight housings you can buy for $10 each! eBay has a little bit of a markup, but they do include bulbs. I wouldn't guarantee those "free" bulbs being the best you can get either!
Buy them from this place.

Look up headlights - headlight conversions - 7 inch round
The early housings like mine are not street legal only because they were sold on the market before the DOT could see them and put a little stamp on the front glass. Also, there is no bulb cover inside the housing which I think is not street legal. Mine doesn't shine in people's eyes too much. I've tested to see. I make sure they are aimed down properly. The newer housings have a center reflector piece to reflect any direct forward light back into the housings and then down to the road. People on eBay tell you all others are illegal because they want you to buy their's. Dont' believe them all.

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
eBay has some with the tiny city light bulb. Some styles have them on the lower left side and some have them centered in the lower side. I think the centered ones might look better during the day...
Those make your headlights glow kinda like you have a really dim bulb, but then your regular headlights can be turned on at night. So far I've onlys seen that on some VW bugs.

Re: Sealed Beam Conversion
Unfortunatly, the style that earlier I said not to get is the only style that Strictly Z has. I'm sure that Strictly Z could get ahold of all the new non-sealed beam conversions and sell them now. But, they have some pretty powerful H4 bulbs. 100w low beams! wow...
This is the style I recomend.
