Re: sizes of wheels
I would like to know the same for the 240Z.
doing a Turbo conversion and considering brake swap (you know I am going to do it)... I want to go 17" rims but How wide and what size of rubber. I was thinking i could get away with 225 45 R17 Kuhmos good wear and handling and reasonable price. safer might be the 215 45 R17
Any of you turbo swap guys or brake swap guys have some input?
Thanks Mark
PS try out the www.tirerack.com for sizes of tires and wheels. - dimensions. and prices.

Re: sizes of wheels
In regards to the 240, have you rolled your fenders? or do you have flares? I know that you'll need at least 15" wheels to clear the big brakes, but if you just have stock wheel arches you might have rubbing problems when you turn or hit bumps... I've seen it before, but now i have no worries, my 300 turbo has tons of clearance =)

Re: sizes of wheels
The diameter of the wheels is not the issue, 17 or 18 inch wheels should be no problem. It is the offset and width that you need to watch out for. It is possible to fit an 8 or 9 inch wheel into the stock wheel well as long as it has the correct offset. You also have to watch out for suspension clearance, not just fender clearance. Unfortunately I am not sure about what offset the 280ZX will tolerate with stock set up.
Anyone want to step in here?

Re: sizes of wheels
From what I know, the zx's tolerate a whole lot more tire in their stock fenders than the early Z's do.

Re: sizes of wheels
Well all eyes on my z. I am a professinal tire installer from UT
I work at Grandmas Tires and been mounting tires for years now. You can go as big as an 18x8" with a 40 series tire. The only problem with this is finding the right back spacing and off set in your bolt pattern. Look up eagle alloys they have a great selection of wheels in your right wheel spacing and off set. You can email me back at bart_weeks@hotmail.com
