so i dynoed the z

and got a lil disapointed when it made a weak 125.07 hp and 138 ft. lbs of torque yet its ran door to door with a 200hp motor......?
anyway the hp peaked at about 5100 rpm's and torque at about 4100 rpm's
the fuel tune is pretty decent kinda lean from 1800-wot on at about 1900 it settles down to dam near stoic. at 2200 throguh 3000 then it drops a lil rich and gets prolly a lil to rich from 4100-5500
all in all for a 30 year old motor with a lifter tap im pretty happy
any ideas guys on where to go from here for power/ fuel tuning

for note currently the motor is on valvoleine 10w-30 goes through a quart and a half two 2 quarts (3 1 time) between oil changes.
ac compresor is off the serphetine ssytem completly and completly removed from the car as with all the other ac componets....stil working on a electro fan.
the battery like's to die and i know the alternator is almost always workin hard its got a cold air intake (easiest car ever to c.a.i.) a timing adjustment (set to elevation) a accel coil, ngk's, and taylor wires......
no cat and a homemade (well made) 2 and 1/4th exhaust with the pep boys special immatiation mandrell bent exhaust pipes to a hi flow muffler.
other than that its bone stock.........

125whp is pretty good for a stock motor. If you want more power, what's you hp goal?

see thats the thing.
if i can get to 200whp and at least 220 ft. lbs of torque without breaking mmmmmmm $2k in parts nd a already set aside say..........$1000 for rebuilding/boring/honing the bottom end so collectively $3k and shoot for
200hp on this n/a motor.
if we droped a zx turbo motor in besides cost of the motor same totals from above only i couldent settle for anything less than 240whp and 260+ ft. lbs of torque.
otherwise the guys at motiva said they can get a used ls1 and trans wiring eletrical etc etc for about $3k and wuld drop it in wire it up tune it down and dynotest it for a cool thousand.

see what im saying kinda demeaning but if a motor swap is gona make more power for less then........

L28E - bore & use .040 oversized pistons, shave head, valve job (3 or 5 angle), mild cam, port the intake, 60mm TB, header w/ 2.5 inch exh, slightly larger injectors (at this point you are pushing the limit of the stock efi). Looking at about $1.5k-$2.5k & about 220-230hp.

L28ET - everything mentioned above + cost of motor ($free - $1k). 250-350hp. It's a lot easier to get more hp from a turbo motor... hence the reason most people go that route.

LSx - Maybe $3k for the motor and wiring... but what about the tranny, driveline, diff, etc? Those will all need to be swapped / beefed up.

I think you can get used LS1 m/t for less than that. You get more bang for buck with the swap. Thanks for posting your honest slip, it's more realistic than some of the bs slinging around here.

my 350Z dynoed at 220ftlbs at the wheels. good luck

My late 280ZX had about 140whp on a stock motor with just headers and exhaust. It had really good compression though. 170psi on all six. (8.8:1 motor)
125hp is typical for the '75-80 blocks. Intake and exhaust bolt-ons arent good for much at all.

yeah, i am really really diggin my 280Z im starting to re-think the sell and get a Z32 option. i dont want to go L28ET again though. to much BS with wiring and still dealing with L series wiring bullshit. i kinda wanna go SR since its an S30.
