Some pictures (dial up beware)

Got bored. Thought about posting some pictures.

This was my first meeting of the Z, at a local salvage yard. Marked down to $600.

I bought it for these. Made it worth the money. Figured it had a blown engine.

Total miles on car. No roll overs. When I got it.

Got the Z to my folks place in Payson AZ.

Will it run?

Nephew was digging it.

Transformer Z?

Can't get enough of the body lines.

Printed out some wiring schematics, thanks to the forum. Checked to see how bad it was.

The only wiring that came in the car. And, it was in the wheel well.

What the hell is this? haha Nothing a sawzall, and a FLowmaster 40 series and some mig can't fix.

Pulled the gas tank. Liner looked like crap, and I should have tried to remove it all. Payed for it later. This was the gas. Almost no smell to it. Kinda old.

Caterpillar wiring harness out of a haul truck. Made incorrectly, and being tossed. Freebee wiring. Pain in the *** to strip down to the wires though.

After I got it running.

Before

After very little work.

I wish I knew the whole story behind my Z. Low mileage, and low VIN. Looked like a project car, but someone gave up when it came to wiring it.
It was at the salvage yard for a while, but it was to complete to part out according to them. That, and the manager did not want to see it stripped.

Someone put a T5 in place of the factory trans, and upgraded the header, and obviously the carbs, along with a Malory dizzy. I have been trying to track down the reason is ended up at the salvage place with a clean title.

I did not strip the tank yet. When I do, I will probably use a product called POR15. It's what I have used on a few motorcycle gas tanks.
The P.O. lined the tank with some horrible goo. Posted another thread about my adventures with that so far.

The car is a major work in progress.

It will need some serious body work, and some minor rust repair. It is my daily driver, but as soon as I have my truck project finished, it will get the proper down time.

Thanks for the encouragement so far. This site has helped me and will help me again.

ya, looks like a deal for $600. Good job on getting it running again.

for the transmission, did you mean it has a 5-speed in it or does it really have a T5?

I doubt it has 34,000 original miles though... looks a bit too re-done. Spraypainted engine bay, repainted body, tranny swap, carb swap... but at this point its not too important. Did you get any paperwork with it or history on the car?

Thanks. I appreciate that. haha

I see it as just 200 pounds more of extra sexy.

Thank God that works on cars. Cause I dunno if an extra 200 pounds ever looked good on a woman.

I think you're just jealous that mine is longer than yours.

I think it needs some major cosmetic work, interior and out. At least now it has a headliner. Needs a new dash, carpet, and every vinyl piece in the car. Left front fender will have to be replaced from damage, and I want to change the front fascia to something that seems to blend with the car better. New paint, and while it's stripped down to metal, a bunch of minor hammer work. Someone nailed my door with their car door the other night. It was a while vehicle, but they were gone by the time I noticed. That sucked. My door was flawless till that happened.

Wanted a Z ever since I thought about driving a car, and I am happy to have the project too.
