Temp gauge problems
Hi guys
I have a 78 280z with some temp gauge problems. I will drive her warm and she is not over heating, the needle is in the midle. Then I will shut her down, but at restart (5min later) the temp gauge shoots approx a 1/4 past midle. When I start driving the needle will come back to midle position. What gives?
I have installed new sensors in the thermostat housing and new thermostat. Also flushed the system with a garden hose. I did bleed the system, by jacking up the front, heater on, radiator cap off and rev the engine/run to normal operating temp (twice).
Has anyone had similar problems? I am leaning towards airpockets. How do you guys bleed the system?
Thanks
KJ

L6 engines run colder than most others. It is normal for the temp on any engine to go up when the coolant stops circulating. Make sure you are using new coolant. It takes 1/2 hour or more to cool down.

Similar problem
My temp gauge will hardly move at all, it barely makes it past the line into the operating arc. I know it had a bad connection when I first got it, it wouldn't respond at all.
Is this problem likely to be related to the connection, or is it probably some other gremlin? I've cleaned and checked it, but who knows.
