Turbo Tranny with stock engine

I had a question for you guys. I'm looking into getting a 240z. Anyway I was wondering is it worth swapping in the T-5 with the L24? Or is it better off with the original tranny? Or if you swapped in a T-5 would you want to use a different rear diff ratio? I'm just looking for people's thoughts and experiences with doing this.

no point in it, just get a normal zx 5 spd, you wont be making enough power on the stock l24 to make a T5 worth the money or time.

The driveshaft will have to be custom made... or basically take the turbo 280ZX driveshaft and have it shortened. Besides that it should bolt in.
You'll want a lower geared rearend, 3.9 would be fine

"Worth it" in what way? Feel? Strength? Performance? Why do you want to swap it?

I personally like the T5 a lot more than the stock n/a tranny. I installed a Mustang shifter & shortened the stick (not a true "short throw" but better than the mile high stick). Mine has held up a lot better than the n/a... Didn't Bleach have a thread on "T5 experiences?" Oh yes... here it is: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...highlight=borg

Yes, I ran a T5 behind a stock L28. It is tighter, 'newer' feeling transmission. I like it.
I only did the swap because
1. My NA tranny blew up
2. I knew I would do a turbo engine swap some day

Actually I was trying to find that thread Nismo. I couldn't remember what it was called and for some reason searching borg warner never occurred to me.

I think the best thing about the T5 is the lower first gear. It will help the turbo spool up faster. You will need a R200 diff or at least the pinion yoke for the earlier Zs. I have a T5 with the Mustang shifter for the L28T I'm putting together. I don't see any point in using it with a na engine but if you already have the parts, why not?
